Great shame great player at his peak, though might be best remembered for Nigel Owens ‘This isn’t soccer’ comment

There's no mention of a specific injury to Stuart Hogg. I just wonder if he's lost that searing pace and acceleration that made him a special player.

No idea on the validity of this... but here's a tweet with a screenshot of a reddit thread, suggesting he was about to be dropped

We know that what people are questioning is the real reason as it was originally going to be after RWC

He said, quite convincingly to my mind, that his body just wasn't up to it and the pain made the game not worth the candle.

I’m just asking following the link posted earlier in the thread. I have no other knowledge to question it either way

From today's Times

"Hogg, 31 last month, has struggled with a knee condition (patellar tendinitis) for several years and last season had heel and ankle problems too. In April, he told of how being in too much pain to play with his children had been a key factor in the decision to call time."

They don’t sound career ending injuries so presumably he has had enough and wishes to move on from pro rugby before his powers diminish further and to enjoy the next phase of his life.

I suffer from achilles tendonitis, and it can be really painful at times and difficult to walk when it flares up. Even just putting shoes on, I'm about screaming when it's bad!! I can imagine how playing rugby and the after affects could be really debilitating for him. If it's affecting his normal life to the extent he can't play with his kids it must be affecting his head as well, and thats never a good thing.

Fair play to him for saying enough is enough.

Thought Rodd would replace Mako. Not surprised about Underhill, undercooked I fear

With the two they have cut I'd also suggest it shows that the guys injured like the Vunipola's or Chessum are approaching fitness so they are more confident about depth in those spots now.

Does this mean Martin is definitely in or am I reading too much into it? OK they are different players but one thing they both bring is incredible physicality in the tackle area
