First class all round performance , including, in my opinion, the officials. Particular congratulations to Chris Ashton for breaking the try record but more importantly for the way he has slotted into the squad so quickly and made such a positive contribution in a short time. It is interesting to look back on the Ashton thread on this Forum a couple or so months ago when we signed him - pleased for himthat he has so conclusively proved all the cynics and doubters wrong! Bring on Leinster!

It’s painful to say it but I have to say Karl Dickson, usually the pantomime villain, was really good yesterday. Let the game flow and listening with ref mike, I thought he was a lot more clearer with the players than previously. Credit where credit is due.

Chris Ashton looked so confident yesterday and looked like he’s still got more in his tank…Freddie S in the air is something else and Reffell was great again …slight concern about Fordy’s kicking in recent games ..it could have been costly but fortunately wasn’t

Think our backs are showing improvement and with the addition of Watson next season will only get better.

I actually thought Ford kicked much better, only two touchline conversions narrowly missed and better out of hand, including some spiral bombs which I don't think we've seen since his ankle injuryKiwiTig wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 10:23 pm Chris Ashton looked so confident yesterday and looked like he’s still got more in his tank…Freddie S in the air is something else and Reffell was great again …slight concern about Fordy’s kicking in recent games ..it could have been costly but fortunately wasn’t
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Yes I agree and perhaps I am being unfair as it’s only been his spot kicking that has been off his normal standards. Confidence is probably a more reasonable explanation

Re Ashton. The finish for his 3rd try looked simple but his running off the ball was class. Originally he is inside Lenny, but you see him look around realise there are 4 defenders and accelerate to get on his outside for a simple score. All the work was done before the pass.
Pleased to see the Ash Splash has disappeared too plenty of opportunity to do it got both his 2nd and 3rd tries. He did say in his interview with Jim Hamilton he was embarrassed by it.

Completely agree. Some top class finishing from someone who is clearly well liked by his fellow players.. great to seeRugbygramps wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 8:24 am Re Ashton. Prem rugby just forgetting Tommy Reffell had another great game.

Uncontested scrums for much of the Saints v Quins game and yet a number of front row included?LekkerTigers wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 5:56 pm https://twitter.com/premrugby/status/15 ... K3ahA&s=19

Henry Arendell from Irish has highlighted the benefit of youth, a good rugby brain, and pure unrivalled speed. Cant tackle yet, but Kevin would work wonders.. think he would fit in well.
As for Tommy Reffell, we must must must keep him. Neil Back Mk 2

Shame Arundell is English, Welsh and Scottish qualified. He’s Cyprus qualified as well, but that would be a real coup.

But he still needs to learn to tackle. A typical BT Sports love-in player: all flash in attack, flakey when the big men are coming at him.LekkerTigers wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 7:43 pmShame Arundell is English, Welsh and Scottish qualified. Talk of him going to Scotland earlier in the year, maybe as they see him as Hogg's successor.

He's 19. Plenty of time to get better defensively. Even Steward misses tackles (at least two one-on-one tackles at the weekend).Hot_Charlie wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 9:34 amBut he still needs to learn to tackle. Yes he’s a work in progress trouble is people are acting like he’s the greatest player in the league already.
