I’m not sure but what we did deserve was a fair application of the rules and there must have been at least 2 of not more penalties completely ignored in the last 5 minutes there.. Shame as it sounds bitter moaning about the referee but it’s just such a shame to lose a game that way.. if we’d been completely outplayed then I can accept that but that’s just thoroughly unacceptable

About LCD's culpability or about EJ being straight with the media?loretta wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 10:42 am https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/60274609
I remain unconvinced.
No, not that one!

Re: 6 Nations 2022
Next Saturday's match in Paris v Ireland may well be the key match in this 6N.
Ireland brushed Wales aside with ease and may be favourites to beat France and maybe even for the Slam.
The French looked a bit rusty against Italy with neither Dupont nor Ntamack at the top of their game.
Their No6 Dylan Cretin (his parents must have a weird sense of humour) took a few line outs but was seriously out-muscled in the loose, so his place could be in jeopardy and Toulouse's Selevasio could be drafted in.
The front row looked good - and so did their replacements, but Ireland seem to have an all-round nous that should see them through to a narrow win, but I hope that Dupont and Ntamack will find some form and take the match to the wire.

In depth analysis in the Times today showing clear penalties against Scotland in the final scrums and how the ref bottled it.

Re: 6 Nations 2022
Happens a lot though, doesn't it? There are quite a few refs who don't want to make big decisions in the last 5 minutes.
I guess the key is to not leave yourself relying on the ref to make a certain call on 81 minutes in order to win, because he is out of your control.

Re: 6 Nations 2022
Did the ref call those penalties earlier in the game though? I seem to recall him letting any collapses go as soon as the ball was playable and telling the 9 to get on with it rather than penalizing either side. I don't know what the penalty count at scrum time was though throughout the game.
Re: 6 Nations 2022
Sounds like poor form but i remember in the buildup the commentary team said he's auditioning, along with the others, for the big games in the upcoming RWC. Well he's proved he's not up to it so let's hope we see him reffing Uruguay v Italy at best! He hasn't got the stomach or bottle for the big games!

And while I’m at it I’m sick of this “painting the right picture” nonsense which has become the new buzz phrase and taken over “which way the hands were facing”. Painting the right picture? It’s not a Picasso! If it’s a penalty it’s a penalty! Even if you can argue the case for the rest ,the penultimate scrum before we took the ball out was a blatant one. Marching forward and the Scottish front row couldn’t handle the pressure and popped up. Its happening all the time still, talking about officiating errors that have spoiled games.Rant over,I’m back in the room

Re: 6 Nations 2022
Does anyone think Eddie missed a trick when Cowan-Dickie was sin binned.
As soon as he went off I thought we should sub on Jamie George here, a lineout in a bad spot and we're in trouble. Isiekwe was still on at this point so we had a 2nd row sub still to make.
What I'd have done is sub Isiekwe off for Jamie George so we had a hooker on for lineouts, then at the end of the sin bin replace LCD with Ewels.
As it was Marler had to throw in for a lineout on our 5m which directly led to the penalty that put Scotland in front. Jamie George makes that throw and I think we retain the ball and exit safely.
IMO if there's a sub that can be made that means we have a hooker on the field if one is sin binned then it should be made, especially later on in the match.
I'd even have subbed Marchant off for George and had Nowell replace LCD at the end of the sin bin.
Lineouts are so vital to the way England played it was stupid to risk having a non-specialist throwing when we had alternatives.

Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Re: 6 Nations 2022
Simmonds was still on and clearly tiring. George on for Simmonds losing a back row, then at the end of the sin bin period you send Ewels on instead of LCD and move Isiekwe to blindside.
Marler taking that throw was amateur hour. By a distance the most frustrating part of the match.
LCD ending up on the wing is largely good play by Russell. Two pinpoint cross field kicks back to back. The first drags the defence out of shape, the second takes advantage. It looked like a pre-planned move and was executed to perfection.
Compounding errors by losing discipline and gifting Scotland a 5m scrum was the abysmal part.

Re: 6 Nations 2022
The penalty try, to be given relies on the interpretation as to whether, had Cowan-Dickie not deliberately and illegally slapped the ball out, the Scotland winger would have certainly scored a try.
For me the ref completely overlooked one key thing. Cowan-Dickie could have caught the ball. As such there can be no certainty that a try would have been scored. Why he didn't try is bewildering. He got to it with both hands so a catch is a possibility and that wasn't considered.

Re: 6 Nations 2022
As for Marler's line out it was up there with Colin Charvis' quick line throw in for the Lions.
