Chris Egerton is a very welcome source for that to be coming from.
Montoya is a brilliant player and hooker is one of our weakest positions from the last 2 years. Montoya and Mamukashvili would be a giant leap forward in a key position.
Especially with Sarries relegated I think Montoya, Mamukashvili, Kerr and Youngs would put us in contention for the best hooker depth in the league. Cowan-Dickie and Yeandle are consistently excellent. Singleton, Marais and Hanson is good depth at Gloucester. Harry Thacker and Will Capon are very exciting players at Bristol too.
There would be great depth in having Montoya, Mamukashvili, Kerr and Youngs though. Might mean Charlie Clare going out on loan one would presume.

Re: Julian Montoya
Should Montoya be the prospective Argentinian signing it would be a sensible move...either agree and sign terms now or risk almost certainly watching him sign for another club.

Re: Julian Montoya
If he does join it might assist in us keeping Lavanini here.
Tigers for the premiership and European Cup. Get behind the team and make some noise!!
Re: Julian Montoya
I would expect Montoya joining would mean someone else leaving. Four international hookers would be crazy unless Tom Youngs wants to take a step back.
How is Kerr going to feel? He must be desperate for more game time at this stage in his career. Perhaps he'll be allowed to look at other opportunities.

Re: Julian Montoya
I have faith Kerr will stay, Montoya could be signing with the club but it could be a Leatigaga situation where we doesn't actually join for another season or like Charles Piutau when he signed for Ulster in April 2015 for the 2016/17 season and played for Wasps between then.
We'll have to wait and see.

Re: Julian Montoya
Just to temper expectations it is possible Montoya has signed for the season after next (which was when we wanted him to sign) in a Charles Piatau like deal

Re: Julian Montoya
Good point kpj. if so maybe they've already built reduced wages into the negotiations so that we don't have that as an issue later.

Re: Julian Montoya
Montoya would be a superb signing in a position that will need strengthening soon. Don't quite get the hype about Mamukashvilli and certainly wouldn't expect him to be an improvement on Youngs, Kerr and Clare. He's quite small for a hooker, was not selected very often at Sale and failed to impress at Glasgow, where he was signed as injury cover. Let go by each decent club he's signed for after one season or less and has been playing at a lower level since 2017. Hope I'm completely wrong and good luck to him, but don't have the same hope that others do.

Re: Julian Montoya
I wonder if next season will be OTY's final season then?
I saw Marika Vunibaka play
Re: Julian Montoya
A fantastic signing. But I'm not sure how much a contract for 2021-2022 means given the economic state of affairs. It could just as easily be ripped up due to economic pressures during the forthcoming season and someone like Montoya is always going to have a. French club prepared to pay more. All the same - if its true - and it happens - a great signing..Wayne Richardson Fan Club wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 5:34 pm BBC have a according to Radio Leicester article..signing for 2021..

Re: Julian Montoya
He was probably planning in finishing next year's Super Rugby season and then heading over. Might just do a season in Japan or France first.Traveller wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 7:21 pmA fantastic signing. Re: Julian Montoya
Montoya is the sort of hooker that can help make props look good.
Add him to Genge and Leatigaga and it could get messy.
Scrum, maul, carrying, pressure, pressure and more pressure.
Brute force, that can also play a bit.

Re: Julian Montoya
To be fair we have an excellent stable of props currently. Hookers have been a little underwhelming. TPN was very much in the twilight of his career, Tom heading that way certainly not showing his best form and then Kerr developing nicely but not the finished article.
We've got one current international incoming from a country that love to scrummage and maul now rumours of another from another country that like to scrummage and maul who also happens to be one of the world's best. This is the type of spending we should have been doing. Agree let's get back to dominating the set pieces and applying lots of pressure. Make life really difficult for the opposition.
