It’s commercialisation, wholly inappropriate and racist, it should have been stopped years ago but Premiership were/and still are too weak to do so.

It’s not isolated though is it. A number of American sports team with Native American connections through their name have exactly the same thing.
You have to be careful what accusations you band around JP14. How is it any more commercial than Tigers fans chanting and then buying stuffed tigers of various sizes, or having their faces painted.
As for racist we could have had half the Sri Lankan nation complaining for shouting Tigers

Re: Exeter Chiefs 21st December
We have a genuine link to the name Tigers, as the Leicestershire Regiment served in India, I agree it’s not isolated but I really doubt our name is insensitive to anyone, we have a partnership with a team in Kuala Lumpur for example. I stand by my comments, the Tomahawk war chant is a mockery of American indigenous culture and invention by the NFL and Hollywood.

Yes we do but my point is that anybody can take offence at anything, and the Kansas City chiefs and the Atlanta Braves don’t have any issues to the best of my knowledge.JP14 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:01 pm We have a genuine link to the name Tigers, as the Leicestershire Regiment served in India, I agree it’s not isolated but I really doubt our name is insensitive to anyone, we have a partnership with a team in Kuala Lumpur for example. From your posts JP I think you are towards the younger end of the spectrum.

For what it's worth, my objection to the 'Tomahawk Chop' has nothing to do with correctness - political or otherwise. It's just a tuneless, soul-less, pointless waste of air and vocal chords!
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

Erm...........and ‘Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigers, Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigers’ is tuneful, soulful and not a waste?Mark62 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:51 pmAgreedstrawclearer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:41 pm For what it's worth, my objection to the 'Tomahawk Chop' has nothing to do with correctness - political or otherwise. How do you know that my reference to all that wailing wasn't directed at Tigers supporters for their comments on here?
(it wasn't by the way, just the terrible sound made by Chiefs supporters).

Re: Exeter Chiefs 21st December
I once went as an Indian brave on a cowboys and Indians themed tour.
I don't remember much apart from getting drunk on cheap whisky and trying to steal cowgirls.
No idea what happened to my tomahawk, I reckon it possibly ended up on eBay.
On topic though, I have this funny feeling that Leicester are going to beat the Chiefs, sorry I mean Exeter.
Must be the whisky talking again!

"Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigers, Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigers" is a tuneful rendition - fermata, rallentando and da capo - that has genuine English lyrics so.......it's poetry by comparison!MCC1964 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 7:06 pmErm...........and ‘Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigers, Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigers’ is tuneful, soulful and not a waste?Mark62 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:51 pmAgreedstrawclearer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:41 pm For what it's worth, my objection to the 'Tomahawk Chop' has nothing to do with correctness - political or otherwise. I maybe on the younger side, you’re no dinosaur and whilst I certainly can complain about anything I’m not one of those offended at anything twitter types. Can we agree to disagree, and compromise that it’s unnecessary and annoying.Mark62 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:29 pmYes we do but my point is that anybody can take offence at anything, and the Kansas City chiefs and the Atlanta Braves don’t have any issues to the best of my knowledge.JP14 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:01 pm We have a genuine link to the name Tigers, as the Leicestershire Regiment served in India, I agree it’s not isolated but I really doubt our name is insensitive to anyone, we have a partnership with a team in Kuala Lumpur for example.
