Happy with those two signings, will help to address some of the problems the forwards have had this season. Always thought Thompson’s best position is no.8 which Wasps fans agree with. Always seems to get over the gainline for Wasps.

Anyone know why we are signing Guy Thompson? We already have several backrowers that look more promising (e.g. Evans, Hamilton) and he seems just another average backrower to me? Suggests to me someone else is going?
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.
Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 3!
I have read serveral things that suggest that Thompson will be playing 7 for us. I think he's a good signing but surely he'd add more to the team by playing 8.
Aside from the fact that I think there is a greater need for a number 8. I worry that if he is going to be playing 7 he will be massively restricting the opportunities of Evans which seems ridiculous and begs the question is it possible for any young player to make it at tigers anymore.

I think MOC's previous tenancy would suggest it to be unlikely.ghdav27 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 8:20 am I have read serveral things that suggest that Thompson will be playing 7 for us. I think he's a good signing but surely he'd add more to the team by playing 8.

I'm not cynical just experienced
Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 3!
Unfortunately apart from a handful of Academy players,in the past who have made the grade, very very few of the present lot circling the 1st XV Squad look anywhere good enough. First major factor in the Backs is that neither Worth or Thacker are remotely quick enough for top premiership standard. Harry Thacker would have made a first class No 9 and he has been juncked which is terminally stupid. We need massive pace in the backs and full scale brawn at 4/5 not paperweights. As for the new round of journeymen, signing a 30 year old who cant get into the Waspies is par for the course. Spencer seemingly a good buy, but in reality we need 8 Genges.....Now that was a really good filch....
Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 3!
Thompson offers ball carrying ability that we don't currently seem to have. Agree with above, I think he would be best used at 8 in the Tigers pack.
Can't see why he would play at 7 for us, not if we want a balanced back row. Him at 8 with Kalamafoni at 6 and O'Connor at 7 is potentially a competitive back row. Far from the best in the league but perhaps borderline top 4.

4. Spencer 5. Barrow 6. Kalamafoni 7. O’Connor 8. Thompson, this offers much more grunt and go forwards than we currently have. Thompson’s best position is 8 and we have been lacking a dynamic carrier in that position for sometime. Aged 31 he has at least got 2 more seasons in him and will help Mapapalangi develop as a player.

Forgot to add Hamilton and Cilliers out rumours.
And who in our promising backrowers would even get into the Wasps squad? No one.
It’s not like people have been complaining about our lacklustre back row is it......
I had asked and they hadn’t heard anything but said we are looking for players that fit that type of bill still so wouldn’t be surprised if we have at least approached him.
Looking at the wasps fans reaction to Thompson going and seeing him play I would say he is better than average.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2017/18 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 3!
Not sure that 4 to 8 combo would help our hookers much. TPN and Youngs aren't showing much in the way of accuracy at present and no notable lineout leader won't help that. I'd expect Kitch at 5 or if he's not retained another lineout lock to join. I presume Fitzgerald will be out the door this summer as well, but with the emergence of Wells and Spencer arriving that's no loss.Leicestertinytiger wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2018 9:27 am 4. Spencer 5.
