Well played Wales - Is this a start of a golden era?
I thought they were going to wilt in the second half, some talented players in their pack.I thought their half backs were poor, missed a few chances due to not looking around.1/2d is a usefull kicker too.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.

Best of an awful year, and gifted by a couple of outrageous reffing howlers....but you take 'em good or bad. Gatland and the coaches deserve praise for developing a new side out of adversity.

Wales
Is this the start of the next Golden Era?
Or another flash in the pan?
Or another flash in the pan?
Still keeping the faith!
Re: Wales
Depends what one deems to be a Golden Era? I don't think they have the "out and out stars" like they did in the 70s who were undoubtedly the best players who were the best players in their postitions in the world at the time (JPR Williams, Edwards, John, Davies etc) but they benefited in the 70s by a lack of competition elsewhere, only France in Europe offered much competition, they never played South Africa and it wasn't a great period for the All Blacks (not that Wales ever beat them in the 70s). So the 70s side was head and shoulders above the competion much of the time.Bill W (2) wrote:Is this the start of the next Golden Era?

There are some excellent players in the current side and many of them are quite young but I think the competition is greater now and it is more difficult to appear such a dominant side as it was in the past.
Also what impact will what seems to be a mass exodus to France have on the team? Currently the WRU is pretty much in control of most of their players and can ensure they are properly rested and that the National team is prioritised, what's it going to be like in the future?

Re: Well played Wales - Is this a start of a golden era?
No doubt that Wales were the best team this year, but refereeing mistakes undoubtedly helped them. Against Ireland their second row really should have been red carded for a tip tackle, and Ferris's yellow card and penalrty was so unjust. Against England, a massive knock on was missede just before their try, North threw the ball into touch and was not penalised, and Walsh did not call advantage over before Strettle "scored" and should have gone back for the penalty.

The men in white may well end that in 12 months' time.
Fair play to the gym bunnies but a golden era I don't think so.

Grand slams in 2005, 2008 and 2012.
Winners of three of the last five slams.
England, by contrast, have failed to win a slam since the RWC.
Clearly a flash in the pan.

Jim Bunny Syndrome who have frequently been dull and predictable.
Not great just over hyped.
Not golden more nickel silver or plastic chrome fittings.

Well done to them on another Grand Slam... but Golden Era? Isn't that just media bull****? We've heard it all before.

Perhaps a definition of 'Golden Era' needs to be agreed.Tiglon wrote:Well done to them on another Grand Slam... but Golden Era? Isn't that just media bull****? We've heard it all before.
Wales have certainly been more succesful then Ireland's 'Golden Generation'.

For me the definition of "Golden Era" is as follows:
The concept is an invention of the press. Watch any player/coach when they're asked about a Golden Era, 9 times out of 10 you'll see them smile or laugh in recognition of the stupidity of the notion.
