Re: Star Signing
Yes, which Internationals would you get rid of? Before you suggest the Summer Tour I'll give you a few hints: Don't forget that the NH "Summer" tour to the SH is essentially the SH "Autumn Internationals" and vice versa. You couldn't just say to scrap the Summer Tour & keep t...

Re: Star Signing
The season, fixture list and compensation for missed players will not be sorted out fairly and to the benefit of ALL the clubs, i.e. including Tigers, until the lesser clubs put their self-interest to one side. Or when hell freezes over. My money's on the latter. How do you propose sorting it out &...

Dayglo doesn't want Johnno's job I can assure you.
He may enjoy knocking the incumbent but he wouldn't want the role himself.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2015 is in England so ......................
Yes there were other low capacity stadia used in RWC2011 but that is becase NZ has very few large stadia in the entire country. If WR is used in 2015 (which I believe it will), I expect it to only get one or maybe two midweek games, most likely involving tier-2 nations. We wouldn't get any of the &q...

I sem to recall that the prices were set very reasonably last time WR was used (in 1999). The midweek attendance for the Italy v Tonga game was just over 10,000.

Re: Star Signing
Correct BJ, but the LV Cup is retained as the clubs want it to stay because for the revenue it generates. Even Tigers would like it to remain as they get to include tickets to it in their ST packages & therefore get the guaranteed income even if the fans don't turn up in person. Not to mention t...

Re: Rugby World Cup 2015 is in England so ......................
The last time the RWC was in England (at least partially) in 1999 the Premiership continued to run in parallel.
Then, just as in 2015, WR was used for a pool match. That match took place in midweek.
I expect the same will happen again in 2015

Tait wasn't at the Manchester (2002) Commonweath Games 7s as he was only 16 at the time. He did do well in the Melbourne (2006) Commonweath Games though.

Re: Star Signing
Club rugby stopping during Internationals wouldn't work for 2 big reasons: 1. Domestic games are actually played during International periods BECAUSE the majority of clubs voted to do so. When the Premiership started, there was no club rugby on 5N/6N weekends but then the clubs decided to change thi...

Re: Star Signing
Kronfeld was well past his best when he signed for us & was retired from International rugby for a year by then too. Tigers HAVE signed "stars". Castro is one of the world's best props. Flood should have been England's first choice FH at the RWC but Johnno refused to look past the dyin...

Yes, you're wrong.
I believe that Manu was subbed in the 67th minute vs Georgia & replaced by Matt Banahan.
I think that Chris Ashton & James Haskell have played every minute of England's RWC to date though.

Other than provide most of the central funding to PRL that then gets distributed to the clubs you mean?
The funds that, without them, would mean Tigers wouldn't be anywhere near profitable and would probably be unable to exist as a pro club...

Re: Smurph injured at RWC
It "works" because Unions are not required by the IRB to compensate players called up for international duty. The RFU do provide some compensation to the clubs though, under the current agreement. Other unions (including IRFU) do not provide Tigers with any compensation for the players the...

Re: Smurph injured at RWC
Not quite Jay. 1. Not directly to supplying clubs. RFU = £30k per elite player to PRL who then divide it all up evenly to the 12 Premiership clubs. None of this additional money goes to increase the salary cap though. 2. If a player is injured playing for his country then usually the national union ...
