Billy himself has put out a statement
This sounds a lot like what Manu did a while back...

Ok hypothetical...

IF Montpellier pull out of their deal for him
IF we assume our squad as is (ie no more back row signings)
IF we had cap space (at a possibly cut price deal)

Would we be interested in him on a 1 year deal?
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I have to admit I thought about that myself, and it would be up there with Ashton were I was dead against it and was proven wrong, and he is the type of player we need, but I feel Ashton worked out cause of Borthwick and his coaching team , I don’t know if Mckellar would want to do that rather than find someone who’s here more long term, and watching him at Saracens I feel that he’s not able to do the hard carrying he used to and make yards he seem to get stopped a lot behind the game line now, so he have to be extremely cheap for me otherwise no.

Impressed with the Spanish criminal justice system, to be honest. Nicked one day, in court and fined the next. Excellent. Presumably built up after years of dealing with similar incidents with drunk Brit tourists.

In that scenario I'd take him, 100%.

I doubt Montoellier will pull out though.

Certainly not with a 240 euro fine

Why would we even consider him? He's not 1st choice for England or Saracens anymore. We've signed Beets let's develop him as we did Jasper. We have Hanro and Hatherall who can cover 8.

I think Beets is too young for a year or two. I don't think he has ever even played a senior game. Jaspar was a lot older when we signed him AFAIK. I think we still could do with somebody else at 8, if only for that year or two.

We've done very well in recent years from signing older players who are no longer first choice anywhere. As someone else posted recently, we have lost a lot of experience and rugby intelligence in the squad over the last couple of seasons. Generally, tight games are won or lost in the closing stages by experience and intelligence, making smart decisions. That's something we have clearly lacked, judging by the number of close games we've lost recently.

Beets is a huge prospect, but I think he is yet to play a senior game if rugby so it might be a little risky to pin all our hopes on him just yet. He might have a better chance of success if he has an experienced 8 to learn from for a year or two, rather than just thrown into the deep end. Other than him, do we even have one specialist 8 employed at the club in any capacity, coaching or playing?

Quite amusing that it's now come out the reason the 1st taser didn't affect Vunipola is that it hit him in the wallet...

Finances helping a Saracens player has a bit of irony about it...
