Leinster tickets

Post by Old Hob »

I've just had the e-mail from the club about tickets for Leinster. They are on sale for Tigers fans in a special "away supporters" section. Does this worry anybody else or only me? Are we to be segregated as though we were soccer fans? Looking on the site, I can't work out how it will be in practice, perhaps others can enlighten me.

No I think this is more the fact that clubs need to give an allocation of a certain percentage to the away club fans. I guess Leinster have just allocated these in one block as it's easier for them.

You can also buy tickets that are on general sale rather than ones assigned to Tigers.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I (deliberately) bought tickets in the 'away' end for the Sale semi-final last year and had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the section. I think it's something we / all rugby clubs should look to do more.

I agree that it could potentially become a problem if fans start behaving like [censored] and stewards / police need to be present to control things, but I think that is a very, very, very unlikely outcome.

I'm all for it.

I have seen plenty actually advocate an away section. It means you can concentrate the support and make a noise rather than be drowned out by having fans scattered around the ground. Not sure it has anything to do with stewarding and crowd control.

I would imagine you will see an away end at all the 6 nations games

Half of the fun of going to a match for me is being able to chat to opposing fans and have some friendly banter, especially in the European games.

I've never know Leinster fans at games to be anything other than friendly and good-natured.

It's not an away end it's an away allocation like we have at every European game as required by ECPR
Don't know why people get in a tizzy over this everytime
Unfortunately it is a it is a few tickets at various prices across 7 blocks around the ground
Nothing prevents you from buying elsewhere in the ground out side tigers allocation.
Buying outside the tigers allocation for games like la rochelle was virtually impossible hence the allocation for away teams

If people don't like sitting in blocks of three rows of Tigers fans they REALLY aren't going to like the police escorted march from Temple Bar to the ground :smt009

I’m not going to Leinster but for many a season have supported Tigers away from home: I was disappointed some time ago when clubs no longer allocated a whole section of the ground to Tigers! Some of the best atmospheres were at Saints, Gloucester, Quins, London Irish, Bath and Worcester when we away fans made more noise than the home fans! When we last went to Leinster years ago we made far more noise than the Irish boys!
Best atmosphere this season so far for me was Quins although we Tigers fans were in small pockets of 10-15 spread around the ground. I imagine Saints will be very good again this season.
Hope everyone who goes to Leinster has a great time.

I was there in April 2005 when we won 13 - 29 with a fabulous performance from Ollie Smith, who outshone Brian O'Driscoll that day. Daryl Gibson also scored and Goodey kicked 19 points........I seem to remember it was a very sober weekend :smt002 :smt003

We were also there, a great place for the craic, it was a great win. I'm a bit too old to go now but I would love to.

A great game. Even better that i worked in Dublin at the time and all my colleagues were Leinster fans. I loved the game but the next week at work was wonderful (and very smug!)

I remember the day we played them at Donnybrook, we were hammered. But still we had a good time in Dublin town.

Who can tell me about Donnybrook, 2 other clubs played there, 2 different club houses 1 at each end of ground.
Lewis Moody played for us in those days, but he was on the injured list that day, we passed him on the stairs in the club house.
We sat on wooden seats under cover along the side of the ground, nearest comparison for me would be the Shed, but smaller and with seats. Happy days.
