Sinfield/Burrows to be honoured

Post by wardy »

Reported in Daily Mail that Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrows are rumoured to be honoured in the King's New Year Honours list. If true, and I sincerely hope it is, it's about time! I had no idea that last week Lord Sinfield finished running 7 ultra marathons in 7 days finishing in front of Buckingham Palace. He has raised £8million for MND. Hero. :smt038 :smt038

Well deserved but should have been a knighthood!
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

If he'd tanked the economy, it would have been!
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

Or if he'd led World Rugby (un)successfully as Bill Beaumont has been knighted

Beaumont was already knighted (2018), this latest 'award/honour' is upgrading his knighthood to Knight Grand Cross status, agree with the sentiment though - not entirely sure what he's done to deserve it, someone must have thought so.

But to stay on topic, well done KS, recognition certainly deserved and wouldn't argue that it could/should have been a higher honour.

Now confirmed they have both been awarded a CBE, one step below a knighthood.

Why do so many actors and sports people get Knighted or other gongs?
Plenty of people get no recognition for doing their job, quietly and out of the public eye.

It should be recognition for doing something extraordinary like Kev or for long service to the country.

Excellent that they are recognised…. But very disappointing that they get the same honour as others get for just doing their jobs. There needs to be a new honour for selfless charity work for others which truly recognises the magnitude of their achievements

Article in today's Times arguing the point many of us have made: 2 knighthoods for Bill Beaumont and none for Kev seems a travesty.

The Honours system is a fiasco, always rewarding top civil servants for just doing their extremely well paid day jobs and mostly ignoring the folks who volunteer and do a great job in their own time. Should have been Sir Kev, but there is still time.
