After the game Steward spent a lot of time chatting and doing photos with Tigers fans in the ShedKiwiTig wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:54 pmThe boy did very well …Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:42 pm Just to add to earlier discussion Steward today 19 carries for nearly 150 metres and 2 try assists.
On top of all the clean catches, yes he dropped one, and yards made through kicking
I’m pretty sure Mike Brown would have caught it though
He really is the real deal

The ref let Balmain scrum at 90 degrees to everyone else.
Montoja had a radar issue.
A bit more efficient than last week but a bit further to go.

Just watching the game back and Matt Scott had some great contributions. Delayed pass for the try, followed by a vital tap tackle. Visibly scanning in defence and organising.
Ollie Chessum had s good game but did become a bit of a penalty machine. Needs to relax back into premiership. He can have a great impact at Premiership level without being on the edge of legality quite so much.
Overall a step forward. Still some redline fever that list us points but got there in the end.

Win at home vs Newcastle and we head into the Euro break 4-4 which I'd probably have taken before the start of the season, with our big guns with us till the end of the year.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I don't think anyone said he wasn't good at what he does. The point was (and is) not to overuse and rotate...Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:42 pm Just to add to earlier discussion Steward today 19 carries for nearly 150 metres and 2 try assists.

Though as an aside I do wonder at the sense of an opposition game plan which involves a significant amount of kicking it to him

Agreed. The commentators confused him with Kelly at one point. I think I'd really like to see what we look like with Kata starting and bringing the backs into play more. Yes OHC is well able to finish from 5m out but he's got much more to offer.

I believe I was for OHC 2nd try when the confusion came. I do agree about OHC though he made the first finish make look ridiculously easy and kept his depth for the 2nd one.markharbtiger wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:58 amAgreed. My comment re Steward earlier was slightly tongue in cheek and I do agree that where possible some rotation is required, possibly the 2 away European games. Even bringing him off 5 minutes early will have helped.
Was also great to see the joy that all the young players were having celebrating with JVP on the touch line they really are a tight knit group

Yes it does look that way. The squad seem very well bonded and supportive of each other on and off the pitch

Kata looks better every game... loves to get involved in the maul... that try proves the worth of that with his sharpness of mind and body! IMO he's like Manu but adds more (tin hat on ).

As opposed to running into our big forward pack that like to make dominant tackles and jackal the ball? Hard to just go wide with no momentum. Glaws tried that late on and spent roughly 10 phases playing in and around the halfway line not really going anywhere other than from one touchline to the other.markharbtiger wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:36 amI don't think anyone said he wasn't good at what he does.
