England A v Portugal - MWWR - 25th February 2024

Post by Rugbygramps »

At MWWR 25/02/24 1pm kick off

Great that Portugal are being given a fixture and wider England squad players get a game

A nice Sunday afternoon game. I could be very interested in that, any news when tickets are released.

Hopefully Tigers players will be involved, week before the PRC semifinal, hope they don't exclude Tigers from it because of that...
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

As a rugby hipster who liked the Portugal team before they were cool, I'm so happy!

Heyes is definitely either in there or the main squad.

Given it’s a capture match, may even be some left field guys like Hurd who qualify for other nations in there.

Press release talks about more opportunities to bridge the U20s and the senior squad, so could see the likes of Chessum and Illione. Maybe Whitcombe?

There is a line on the club website saying it’s still waiting world rugby approval

Mmmmm. Heyes has to pull his socks up a little, there are a few other names being mentioned at the moment.
It depends on who replaces World Cup players in the 6 nations squad. I think it will be evolution rather than revolution

The key will be player release for the game also.

Think Portuguese players have an agreement with the French leagues to release players for 5 weekends.

Given they have 5 games in the Rugby Europe Championship, will their stars be there?

Depends how hard they go against Belgium and Poland, perhaps. It is likely to be a mixed side. Lots of good players who didn't get any limelight at the World Cup.
