Bit of a mixed bag today. Another tough loss, but plenty to take away, including our first point at this level. I thought we were really combative and competitive around the park, and we matched them in many areas. Unfortunately, our defence just wasn't good enough against what looked a well-coached Worcester attack. Particularly early on, they found it far too easy to get on our outside, and later on they sliced us open through the middle. Lots of players out there with little/no experience at this level, so its understandable, but need to adjust quickly.

Zoe Evans put in a great shift on the wing, and looked like her game has moved on a lot from last year. Katie Childs really stepped up for me, and was so often the impetus and focal point in attack. Caz Collie is a canny addition and made multiple big clearances. Georgie Grimes had a strong game at tighthead, having come on very early. Amy Orrow was very prominent in the 2nd half and gave us front foot ball.

I thought Worcester's discipline was pretty poor and cynical as the game went on, as they looked to spoil any momentum, and were eventually punished by the ref late on. I thought there was a stone-cold red card for an upright head-on-head, that ended Churchy's match in the 2nd half, which the ref inexplicably gave as penalty only.

Its going to be hard going the next couple of matches against strong Bristol and Exeter teams, but plenty of opportunites to learn for this group before the cavalry arrives from the internationals.
thanks for the report! Its going to be a tough first season at this level but as long as we're seeing improvements week on week and players adjust positively to the demands I will be happy. At least the results in themselves don't matter in these matches and should be seen as quality pre-season games.

Indeed, and we'll get a couple of matches in the spring for this cup anyway, with how the format works.

Its all valuable minutes for players who will have to fight really hard to get a place once the Prem comes around. The cream should float to the top.

Meg Jones has not been included in the new GB 7s contracts, pretty much confirming her switch in focus to XVs. Very good news for us if she's available all season.

Celia Quansah has been given a contract. A very welcome boost for her, as she closes in on a return from ACL problems.

Starting XV for the away trip to Bristol tomorrow at 1300.

15 Caz Collie [2]
14 Amelia Tutt *
13 Katie Childs [19]
12 Rebecca DeFilippo [1]
11 Zoë Evans [17]
10 Amanda Swartz [1]
9 Amy Relf [17]
1 Jade Jones [12]
2 Alana Bainbridge [2]
3 Georgie Grimes [2]
4 Maddie Massey [1]
5 Amy Orrow [2]
6 Zoe Warrington [14]
7 Roisin McBrien (c) [18]
8 Sydney Mead [1]

REPLACEMENTS
16 Samantha Williams [18]
17 Churchy Knight [20]
18 Ofure Ugiagbe [20]
19 Tanya Bird [13]
20 Becky Noon [17]
21 Lucy Nye [9]
22 Natasha Jones [19]
23 Ellie Turner [11]

Pretty big ask this. Bristol have looked strong. Defense will need to be a lot better, and it'll be a tough test to score tries. Hopefully we can keep it respectable.

Plenty of rotation again, as we test out players and combinations. Outside back Amanda Swartz a surprise pick at 10. Wales international Amelia Tutt gets a debut, having missed out on WXV contention with injury. Jade Jones gets a first appearance of the season. Warrington and Mead shake up the backrow.

Bristol won by 30 against Exeter, who handily beat Worcester, who handily beat us and Sale. It was always going to be a very hard match. Disappointed not to cross, however.

Sadly, Worcester Warriors Women have collapsed, as their backers withdrew funding...

The noise coming out was pretty positive when they signed the deal with Cube. Sounds like the money isn't actually there, unfortunately...
