Re: Leicester Tigers Women 2023/24 - Vicky Macqueen in 'The Magnificent Fifteen'
Just need to say on FB some 'supporters' made misogynistic and demeaning comments about Rocky Clark. It's not banter, it's vile. And I am not a 'melt' or a 'snowflake' for objecting to this. Nobody should speak about a female, let alone rugby star, in that way. Women's rugby is growing. I teach several girls who play rugby U18 and U20 and the one thing they hate is the 'banter' from some male players.
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

Still got a long way to go, in many respects...jgriffin wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 2:26 pm Just need to say on FB some 'supporters' made misogynistic and demeaning comments about Rocky Clark. No excuse for such behaviour. So sorry the team had to read those comments.

36-7 loss at Trailfinders yesterday
Re: Leicester Tigers Women 2023/24 - Vicky Macqueen in 'The Magnificent Fifteen'
It takes a season to mould a side from what is essentially scratch (at this level). The team by the end of the season won't look like it does now, and hopefully will have a collected a couple of wins.

It will take a season to get used to the standard of rugby and some of our players are juggling their jobs around training and playing.
This season is about getting the squad to gel and although the defeats have been heavy the ladies are giving their all. Hopefully they will, after a few more games, get closer to teams and win a couple of games.

Re: Leicester Tigers Women 2023/24 - Vicky Macqueen in 'The Magnificent Fifteen'
I thought we played pretty well in the first half. Opening score was excellent. Sarries' only way into the game at that point was in the maul, and unfortunately they found it much too easy to rumble over when they got in range.
Then they absolutely shredded us after the break running kicks back and on turnover ball. And if they didn't score from that, they eventually would break the defence down.
The hard facts is that we're just too easy to score against. The coaches will get plenty of leeway this season, but there should be questions asked if it doesn't improve as the season goes on.
It's all very well backing a relatively young and inexperienced squad, but I'm feeling like the club has perhaps misjudged exactly how big the step up is. Supporters are having to endure quite a lot of pain before we see a return.

Very much so. It's very much a building block on top of the Championship North season last year. Pretty much all of those brought in add a higher level of experience that compliments the ex-Prem players who were in the original team whilst allowing a better platform to assess those who are completely new at the top level; realistically that might be fewer than half a dozen of the original squad. At the moment, that looks like players like Morgan Richardson, Roisin McBrien, Katie Childs, Tanya Bird, Zoe Evans & Churchy Knight. Molly Draycott and Louisa Burgham are still listed but yet to feature in PWR (both featuring for Kenilworth last weekend); Kat Turner still injured I think.

We've had players popping up all over the place, including as far as Henley and Cheltenham.
I think it should be said that even many of the internationals we've brought in are still pretty fresh at this level.

Very much so. It's a large leap and one where you aren't just going to be able to assemble a squad immediately filled with the highest level talent.Darc Tiger wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 11:52 am We've had players popping up all over the place, including as far as Henley and Cheltenham.

Sydney Mead, Rebecca DeFilippo and Katie Thicker have been named in the Gwalia Lightning squad for the upcoming Celtic Challenge competition.
Two sides each from Ireland, Wales and Scotland will compete home and away in an expanded format from last season's pilot, and is intended as a development pathway to international rugby. Could be the first steps towards the Celtic answer to the PWR.
Fran McGhie played for the Scottish side in the pilot tournament, before bursting onto the scene in the subsequent Six Nations.
The 3 selected still seem to be on our books, so probably have leave to go and play in Wales for the next few months.

Mead and Thicker obviously haven't really featured. I wonder if we'll see a bit of DeFilippo whilst it's on seeing how much of her we've seen at 12; as we've seen she's been juggling Tigers and RAF playing commitments alongside each other already during the PWR season.Darc Tiger wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2023 8:06 pm Sydney Mead, Rebecca DeFilippo and Katie Thicker have been named in the Gwalia Lightning squad for the upcoming Celtic Challenge competition.

DeFilippo and Thicker start for Gwalia this afternoon, with Mead on the bench. Free to watch on rugbypass.tv (2pm) if you want something to watch later.
Orla Proctor, who hasn't played for us yet, has also been made available as a 'transition player' for the Scotland teams.

Well done to our Tigers, as a fast start and an excellent defensive display helped Gwalia to an opening win against the more fancied Brython side, 5-20.
