Once again, my thanks Robespierre, for these updates. I like being able to keep half an eye on things the other side of La Manche 👍

Yes thank you - I don’t profess to follow French Rugby but this is always interesting and enlightening.

You mention Dupont - will his switch to 7s for the Olympics mean he will be unavailable for Toulouse from a certain date?

Yes, he'll miss several games for Toulouse and also for France in the 6Nations.

Take a look at this audacious try by French hooker Pierre Bougarit (careful with the pronunciation!) for La Rochelle against Perpignan:

Back to the serious stuff this weekend with round 10 of the Top14. Here are the fixtures:

Friday 22nd
Perpignan v Bayonne
Bordeaux-Bègles v Lyon

Saturday 23rd
Montpellier v Castres (after 2 Euro wins, Montpellier must now start winning in the Top14, but Castres are a tough nut to crack)
Racing 92 v Oyonnax
Pau v Clermont
Stade Français v La Rochelle
Stade Toulousain v Toulon

Yes, a good side, with a new head coach this season, Yannick Bru (former France and Toulouse hooker and forwards coach with the French XV). Damian Penaud joined them from Clermont in the close season and is one of the best wings in the world today.

My optimism might be tempered with the news that France’s outstanding No8, Gregory Alldritt will resume playing in early January.
