I thing the majority of his Exeter games were at 12.
It will be interesting to see where the new coaches see Cocanasinga playing

Kata was mainly a winger under McKellar, I think.

If we keep up with the kick heavy game I'm not sure Kata will be a suitable winger for us so it'd make sense for him to primarily be a centre

If you say combine Nadolo's games this season & Gopperth's. I genuinely think Kata probably fills both.

By having versatility in our squad we get to have cover for lots of positions without too many going long periods without games
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I really hope we don’t start chopping and changing Chessum and Martin around between lock and 6. They are both potentially world class locks, play them there
Martin will be playing second row from now on (unless an emergency dictates otherwise) - SB wants him to play there. Chessum i think is a harder call - very good player certainly but like Itoje at a similar age can play both 5 or 6

It is an odd one. Normally there is a bit of fanfare and buildup and today just seems to be a bit of a random information dump. I guess they had to make a statement about Potter so maybe they just wanted to balance that out with a couple of signings that they already had over the line. Who knows.

RunTigerRun wrote: Wed May 24, 2023 5:13 pm Mentioned it before but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam Carter joins us for a season. Worked with McKellar from the Brumbies / Australia. Line out caller (which is good whilst Henderson, Martin, Chessum O are either WC or 6N duty) and gives an experienced mentor to the young locks.

A season contract to be an extra body if needed and with injuries (cause Martin, Wells, Chessum and Henderson have had time out with injuries this season) then I think it’s valuable. Then next season when Manz/Chessum L/Carmichael have had some more exposure then we can see them step up more.
Great call!
If only my sixth sense was on lottery numbers not random signing hunches! 😂😂

Martin is a better 6 than Chessum. If one needs to drop into the backrow for whatever reason I'd have thought it'd be George.

Being able to rotate Martin, Henderson and Chessum will give us some strength at lock next season. Wells and Carter adding more experience as required as well.

Of course injuries and emergencies may occur, but again imo the extra that Martin brings to lock especially his tackling and running off 2nd or 3rd ruck, means lock should be his specialist position. We have excellent options without moving Martin

Two quality signings, who’ve both worked with McKellar too. Imagine they’ll be crucial when the season kicks off given the WC players missing.

Always feel with a new coach you want to back them with some signings of their own.

Will he be replaced ?
I think so. Given it's a RWC year there's a chance of getting a late deal or two (Veainu like), made "better" in some ways by the smaller cap and buyer's market with a fair number of available players.

I think he's another Porter in some ways. Useful cover should we find DK being called up. Started exclusively for Exeter at 12, at Moana Pasifika was used more at both 12 and 13, at the Brumbies almost exclusively on the wing.
