Is it just my cynical mind or is it more than coincidence that Veianu arrival at Sale comes not long after Manu announces his contract extension,
From what I saw of some of his Stade performances TV is a shadow of the player he once was

Agree that he is a shadow of what he was and his defence was never one of his strengths.

Yeh I think people let memory cloud.
Veainu was a fantastic player but he’s not someone I would say is defensively strong enough to “replace” Reed for the big games.
If Veainu starts it will be for his attack

Considering how weak Reed looked under the high ball defensively in the final I'd expect TV to do a lot better and still offer plenty in attack, which is why Reed was preferred to O'Flaherty.RagingBull wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 8:16 pm Yeh I think people let memory cloud.

Then again I've not seen TV play since Tonga Vs England so he might have faded in the interim.

TBF he’s been out for the year with an ACL injury
The one year aspect is prob a case to allow him to prove he’s fit and still just as good rather than banking on him for big games.

Hence I italicised elite. I'm not sure Japan is there yet. There's a lot of very expensive players playing there, but the reality in recognised European competitions, other than an apparent injury crisis at Worcester leading to 2 or 2 consecutive starts, he's only played 10 in the Prem Cup or Challenge Cup in recent years, not the Premiership. I think Atkinson will sit comfortably ahead of him in the 10 pecking order.TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 9:43 amWell he's played 10 most of this season (till To'omua reached fitness) in Japan's top division, so that was the league higher than Freddie Burns came and joined as our 2nd choice Fly halfHot_Charlie wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 9:13 amI think the linchpin of that selection is your 10/15 cover.Leicestertinytiger wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 6:33 pm
Even without Watson I still wouldn’t have him in the 23.
Youngs, Pollard, OHC, Kelly, Scott, Kata, Steward
JVP, Shillcock, Porter
I wouldn't be having Shillcock covering 10. He's barely played any elite rugby there in several seasons.

Shillcock as a player is similar to Goode imo
He will be fine at 10

I know that many Bath fans thought he was one of their best players when he was on loan to them.

Given Atkinson and Shillcock, I was surprised that we were linked to Kieran Wilkinson earlier in the season.

Yeh but let’s give him a chance. He always looked good when he played for Worcester against us.

True, but given Pollard and Steward will likely be away until ~ November, that’s Atkinson at 10 and Shillcock at 15. If Atkinson picks up an injury, we are Shillcock at 10 and Brown at 15… and Walsh or Meredith as the bench 10. An extra body could be wise, and Wilkinson has talent to showcase and could be a shrewd addition for the right price and suggestion IMO.Leicestertinytiger wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 10:24 am Given Atkinson and Shillcock, I was surprised that we were linked to Kieran Wilkinson earlier in the season.

I rather suspect it will be Atkinson at 10, Brown at 15 and Shillcock at 23, that covers both positions.RunTigerRun wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 10:33 amTrue, but given Pollard and Steward will likely be away until ~ November, that’s Atkinson at 10 and Shillcock at 15. Only the pool period stage, any players who make the final will miss prob 5/6 roundsJimmy Skitz wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 2:04 pmits the prem cup though during the World Cup period so is that such a bad thing?RunTigerRun wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 10:33 amTrue, but given Pollard and Steward will likely be away until ~ November, that’s Atkinson at 10 and Shillcock at 15.
