Contenders for end of season awards?
I know we have 3(?!) games to go, but any thoughts on how these might go?
To get the ball rolling:
Player of the season: I can’t really look beyond Montoya again. Honourable mentions to Martin, Wiese and Pollard
Most improved player: Between Ollie Chessum and Cam Henderson? Given that a year ago we we were probably looking at 2nd row as an area of relative weakness, we now look as strong as anyone in the Premiership. Joe Heyes maybe also in the mix?
Newcomer of the season: He’s technically a newcomer, so has to be Pollard - but if it feels too much to give a newcomer award to a WC winner, then Tom West.
I’m sure there’ll be plenty of differing opinions - so fire away!

Re: Contenders for end of season awards?
Player of the season, I would agree Montoya, quite simply we are a better side when he plays, also his captaincy is on another level, was always in dialogue with Dickson yesterday, but never disrespectful.
Most improved again Henderson, although Martin has been like a new player since his move to lock.
Newcomer, bit left field, but Cracknell, has been very consistent whether starting or off the bench, and has filled in well across the whole back row.

Player of the season: Montoya
Young player of the season: Henderson/Martin
Newcomer: If we aren't going to give to Pollard (He is a newcomer after all), Cronin is in for a shout for me. (For what it's worth he'd also get the d*ck of the year award for that game where he couldn't keep his mouth shut).

Player of the Season - Agree Montoya for me but with Weise a very close second.
Most improved - Cam Henderson
Best newcomer - I’d give it to Cracknell or Cronin

Montoya - player of the season
Martin or Henderson - young player
Pollard - newcomer
Pollard might be a RWC winner but he didn’t came here to much fanfare, def deserves it with the way he plays.
Everyone said we would miss Ford, now who would honestly take Ford over Pollard?

I'd probably go for Montoya for PotSRagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 6:54 pm Montoya - player of the season

Henderson - YPotS
Newcomer - on balance, Cracknell, purely as he's done consistently it for the whole season. Cronin may have had more of a look in until he got injured and missed much of the recent run of form. Pollard has only really come good since the Clermont game in January.

I guess my counter to that is look at the results since then.Hot_Charlie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 6:58 pmI'd probably go for Montoya for PotSRagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 6:54 pm Montoya - player of the season

Cracknell has been great.
But we wouldn't be where we are without Pollard IMO.

I agree about Pollard, not sure how I feel about calling a World Cup winner a new comer though.
RB is correct though his return to fitness and form has coincided with our excellent league form.

Mike Brown must be in the mix

Best quality for money.
I think he will ultimately be judged on his performance in the final. Which given his try saving tackle in the final minutes will see him get a place in the world cup squad due to an unfortunate injury to Max Malins.

What a great dilemma to have ! So many to choose from
