Very sad. I remember watching him when he was with Coventry. A local derby in those days. RIP.

God, I'm getting old. He was great to watch, one of the buccaneers of the wing, mazy stepping as well as great straight line speed, hair all over the place. :smt009

Great player. Well liked by the rugby community.
Played incredibly well on those boggy Coventry pitches!

What a great shame. He was the finest player I ever saw in an England jersey and I don't say that lightly.
He was an absolute joy to watch and was an intrigal part of that famous Barbarians try finished off by Gareth Edwards.

And the only Englishman involved, if I remember aright. Head back, blond hair flying is my abiding memory.

He was one Englishman the "Taffs" grudgingly admired. I can't think of any others.

I think hooker Pullin was also involved but it was long ago. Flags at half mast in Dunchurch tonight. A great player.

It's a great shame the younger generation didn't see him play.

"Dai" Duckham. A shock of blond hair, a side step, and gone. Sad day.

I was talking to my boys about him. I think he played for Midland Counties East against the All Blacks. 1973........or was supposed to play and didn't.......one or the other.

We stood on a coke bank opposite the club house end. Where the Alliance and Leicester stand.....or whatever it's called now is.

Got to know him on trip down The Great Ocean Road on a Lions Tour in 2001, that was
Led by David and his wife. Not only was he a magical player but a thoroughly nice bloke

My latest memory of him was from the programme that BOD did on the history of Irish of rugby when he was recounting the story of Willie John contacting him about England playing in Dublin and the tears in his eyes as he recounted the story.

We have also lost Peter Rosborough from that very good Coventry side too

Hi all

Back on here after years being just a reader only

I felt moved to post on the sad passing away of David Duckham

I was born and brought up in Coventry (before spending the last 40+ years of my life in my adopted county along with beloved Tigers) but originally cut my teeth as a teenager watching rugby and the great Coventry side of the time.

Five England internationals in the Cov team of the time .........four in the backs ............Peter Preece, Peter Rossborough, Geoff Evans and of course DD. The one forward was I believe Keith Fairbrother - who I knew remotely through a rugby playing acquaintance.

Sadly Cov now no longer of the same strength ...........made even worse of course by the invasion of wasps.

For those not fortunate to watch DD play at the time suggest you try to watch the Baa Baa v All Blacks 1973 match on a wet winters afternoon. It will uplift your spirits ................but count how many yellow or red cards there would be with todays rules !!
