Tigers post Borthwick - next Head Coach?

Post by sapajo »

Seems the wheel has turned and we are now set to lose at least Borthwick our Head Coach who brought Tigers back from the Abyss to once again be premiership champions. What does the future now look like for Tigers post Borthwick and what must the club do to avoid returning to the dark days?

Given there is a little bit of discontent from some at Ulster about McFarland given the recent result against Leinster maybe a phone call over there to see if he fancies a change of scenery might be in order.

Unfortunately MacFarland has a contract with Ulster until 2025. I can't see Ulster giving him to us for free, the contract buy out would be substantial. Shame as he's a very good coach who would suit us.

It would be far from ideal to lose Borthwick mid season and I'd be a little disappointed if he left straightaway.

The pay out for Borthwick would be substantial and even more if he takes Sinfield with him!!

There's a report saying that we will lose Borthwick, Sinfield, Walters to England and be compensated 200,000

The England pack got bullied by South Africa and who was in charge of them? Cockers!
I can't believe the RFU have so little knowledge of him to even consider him as head coach. We were so relieved when he was sacked and the stagnation he oversaw came to and end.
Is Borths really prepared for the :censored: that comes with the England job? A million "know-alls" questioning your every selection.
If his playing days under Johnno taught him anything, it is a poisoned chalice. Even Clive got the treatment once the World Cup was over. World cups won regularly is all that will stay the baying mobs and that is not going to happen.
SB, if you have any sense at all, stay with Tigers and win us some European Silverware.

There are two people available. Dean Richards and John Wells. Whether they would return is another matter entirely.

Hey! There's been an exhaustive global search for the right coach I'll have you know. No expense spared. All candidates considered.

So when Borthwick takes over England we can welcome Cockers back. ;-)

Thats the rub just for once after years of abysmal failure Tigers finally recruited a truly World Class Head Coach a proven fitness coach and a legendary ex rugby league superstar and inspirational leader. Now appallingly after a mere 18mths later and just 6 mths after winning the prem we find ourselves yet again at a crossroads. It seems inevitable now that we shall minimally lose our Head Coach and possibly Aled and Sir Kev. Whatever happens Tigers cannot allow this nightmare to send us back into the abyss. This is make or break for our club and we cannot afford to get it wrong again.

This is the inherent problem with the current systems. The better you are at developing young talent, the better you are at bringing on existing players, the better you are at finding hidden gems, the better you are are recruiting and supporting top coaching talent, the more you get kicked in the teeth by the England set up and other international teams. As we stand, we are seriously not far off potentially losing most of our 1st 15 to internationl duties. Still not sure any club has suffered to the extent that Tigers have recently, partly due to EJ seemingly ignoring the better players at other clubs which may have contributed to his downfall.

That said, it is not over yet until the SB announcement is made so there remains hope.

Hopefully the club have put a juicy new contract in front of him just to try and make the decision a bit more difficult. Nothing would make me happier than a sudden popcorn Wednsday announcing new contracts for all 3 coaches.
