POSSIBLE NEW HEAD COACH?

Post by Dangerous4 »

So the RFU have has shown naivety, once again and we could well be the big losers thanks to them. Their timing for the sacking of EJ is dreadful.

Now IF we lose SB this season, we shall be up the proverbial "gum tree"., so to speak.

I am not "jumping the gun", but supposing we do lose SB, this season or after, who would be the Head Coach, best suited to take over at Welford Road.

An unpleasant topic, especially just before xmas.

In my opinion it has to be Sir Kev as interim assuming we can keep hold of him.

If true, what is in this Rugby League publication is not easy reading for Tigers.

Fact is Borthwick, Sir Kev and Aled are all still under contract to Tigers. If England want us to release them all now thereby stripping out our entire coaching team then its going to have cost them a seven digit sum and not the meagre £200K that is being peddled.

RFU to propose a swap? England get Borthwick, Kev and Aled and we get Cockers et al.

Telegraph reporting different
It is understood that Sweeney has contacted Andrea Pinchen, the Leicester Tigers chief executive, on Tuesday afternoon.

Richard Cockerill, the England forwards coach, was appointed as interim head coach following Jones’ dismissal on Tuesday morning but that was only ever a holding operation until the negotiations with Borthwick could be opened.

It is likely that the RFU will be keen to offer Borthwick a long-term deal through to the next World Cup in Australia in 2027 with a break clause dependent on results.

It is likely that the RFU will have to offer Leicester well in excess of £200,000 to buy Borthwick out of his contract with the Premiership champions, meaning that the cost of sacking Jones will exceed £1 million.

It is also understood that Leicester are unlikely to allow Borthwick to take his current assistant coaches Kevin Sinfield and Aled Waters.

Leicester are also preparing for an approach for player-coach Richard Wigglesworth, the former England scrum-half, to join Borthwick's new coaching team.

Fact is Borthwick, Sir Kev and Aled are all still under contract to Tigers. If England want us to release them all now thereby stripping out our entire coaching team then its going to have cost them a seven digit sum and not the meagre £200K that is being peddled.
Where is this 7 figure sum coming from, compensation is exactly that paying what is remaining of their contract, not pay off their contract and we would like some extra as well please.

Actually that is not correct. Compensation is the negotiated sum paid to the club to agree to a release early from the contractual obligations. Unless the contract limits that to the amount due to be paid under the contract (unlikely) then the amount in question is whatever payment is negotiated between the parties. It would almost certainly not be limited to what is due under the contract (that would be what an employee could expect if an employer wanted them to leave early, or they get put pn gardening leave and paid the same). In this case, SB is contracted to us, they want to enqtinguish the contract and so we name our price and the negotiations begin. We have no obligation to release SB or anyone from a contract unless we are happy with the financial recompense. In this case, the RFU are pretty much over a barrell and so I would expect them to get their cheque book out and start adding zeros to that number.

A few people on twitter have intimated that there was a break clause for England in Borthwick's contract with Tigers.

Well thank you for the correction but anyone thinks for one minute the RFU will pay more than they absolutely have to they are in for a surprise. If Tigers play hardball they will wait till June and pay nothing.
Let’s not forget the fat sum Jones will take them for.
