No mugs but bottom of the league with 1 win up till today, we really need to put this game away
But lost games by only a few points, so not whipping boys.

There are mitigations with injuries, international call ups and the stop start nature this season etc but if we don’t sort the defence out we’ll be missing out on top 4.

And I bet you that if we sort out the defence we’ll start to look better in attack as things will gel and new partnerships and players will find their feet on both sides of the ball.

Unfortunately, it’s an if at the moment as we are losing points cheaply time and time again each week
52 trys conceded last season(24 games),30 already(8 games)! (If that's correct) almost double the average conceded!
The fact we have a negative point differential is quite telling.

not really. We have won 4 and lost 4 so you would expect it to be close. Only 2 home games b4 today.

I’m not overly concerned at the moment. There’s been a load of disruption, we haven’t fired on more than one cylinder yet but we’re in a reasonable position in the table. Get Kelly back and Pollard - we’ll be in better shape for the 6 Nations period.

That's what I have been saying for a long time, why didn't they let Atkinson have a go at FH?

Chiefs have managed a positive differential despite winning 4 and losing 5. It is just concerning that what today should have been a comfortable 10+ point win got turned into a close run affair mostly because we seemed out to sea defensively after 30 mins, which has happened several times this season already and hasn't seemingly been fixed yet.

Ashton was poor he missed 2 tackles in a row on OHC that resulted in 2 tries for Irish and then ran like a headless chicken straight into Irish forwards and gave up a penalty for holding on as he ran away from support. If Jackson had not missed those 2 conversions we would have been toast giving up such a massive lead so easily was shockingly poor. We scraped the win by holding onto our minute lead which we failed to do against Bath and Exeter and came away with 5 points thats the big positive.
we didn't we brought Porter on and moved Potter wide, Ashton was also poor so we put Atkinson the 15 and Watson to the wing, we can't replace everyone

Whatever way you dress it up,going from conceding 2.16 trys a game to 3.75 is a huge worry, it's almost conceding a TBP every game! I understand the Sarries loss skews it a bit but no one can sit there with a straight face and say that the defence isn't a huge problem this season compared to last. It's night and day

A few of Irish losses:
Bath (A) 4 points
Gloucester (H) 1 point
Quins (A) 2 points
Chiefs (A) 5 points

As I said, they are no mugs. Quins and Chiefs you could argue are our rivals for Top 4 and possibly Gloucester. They only just beat them. We have more to come and can improve.

Injuries and losing Moroni is definitely a factor, having to play without your #1 inside centre and throwing a winger in at 13. Cut out the penalties and we won’t be under pressure 5m out, where most teams will cash in. If you’re winning but not happy that’s a decent sign.

Clare won’t be looking forward to watching the re run tomorrow. What a dumb penalty right in front of the ref.

Not just defensively in the backs though, forwards are falling off tackles too and the defensive intensity bar Exeter is nowhere near the level of last season for me. There's glimpses here and there in individual players such as Martin but there's just seems something missing. Let's just hope it's a slow start and we grow into the season and we can judge again after a full compliment

Quins away was our best defensive performance. It’s the same for other clubs….Gloucester without Atkinson aren’t the same for example.
