And in East Midlands Regional 2, Market Harborough continued their remarkable away record this season (they are unbeaten) to beat Northampton Old Scouts last Saturday (by one point!), that was sandwiched between two bonus point home victories against Towcestrians and Old Laurentians.
Market Harborough are now third in the table, just one point behind local rivals Lutterworth, both with 3 games remaining.
MH still have to travel to runaway leaders Old Northamptonians, who have only lost one game all season, so perhaps Lutterworth are still slight favourites to stay second, but it will be tight!!
County Cup Final and a trip to Welford Rd to look forward to at some time in the next couple of months!

That takes me back, played against those sides back in the 1970's and enjoyed a couple of trips to Welford Road for a final.

This coming weekend sees some important games in National 2 West, the three Leicestershire sides have games that whilst not yet season defining, will certainly have an effect on the outcome.
Hinckley who have stated a desire to remain in the top four of the league, are away to Hornets based down in Somerset, who have started to climb away from the relegation zone. Both sides will be desperate for points from this game and it could go either way.
Loughboro Students sit mid table and are not likely to be involved with either end of the league have a difficult home game against promotion chasing Bristol side Dings Crusaders who are currently in 3rd position whilst the students are 8th.
Leaders Leicester Lions have the most difficult trip away to another Bristol side, Clifton, who are in 2nd position and 12 points adrift of the Lions, should the Lions win this game and looking at the remaining fixtures, they could well start planning for promotion, not quite a winner takes all game, but pretty close.

Drama in the National 2 West league as Loughboro' Students battle to an excellent win over Dings Crusaders from Bristol winning 47-45.
Leicester Lions took a huge step towards promotion to the National 1 league with an impressive 14-24 away win at another Bristol outfit Clifton. Lions now have a 16 point lead over Clifton with 6 games to go.
Late score in Hinckley lose away to Hornets 46-41

National2 West fixtures this weekend
Old Redcliffians v Loughborough Students. This is a tough game for the students(and some of our academy products on loan) Old Reds are one place below the students with a game in hand, both trying to keep their middle of the table positions.
Leicester Lions v Barnstaple. The Lions need to maintain their focus to keep their lead at the top of the table, the Devon side are in the relegation scrap and may find the Lions at home a tough nut to crack.
Hinckley v Clifton. This game could well decide if Hinckley can stay in touch with the top four, the Bristol outfit lost at home last week to the Leicester Lions and will not want to lose to another Leicestershire outfit and they will not have given up yet in trying to catch the league leaders.

Looking at Leicester Lions as possible candidates for promotion had me look at likely teams to be promoted up from Midlands 1. Syston are currently in 2nd place behind Dudley Kingswinford, but DK also have a game in hand. Syston also have an away trip to 3rd place Bridgenorth this weekend who also have a game in hand over the Leicestershire outfit. Systons last game the week after, also away to Burton, so they have a tough end to the season.

Mixed results for the three Leicestershire sides in Nat2 West, Loughboro' Students showed some fire in grabbing a late away win in Bristol at Old Redcliffians.
Hinckley were at home to second place Bristol outfit Clifton and they were on the end of a beating losing 31-71.
Leicester Lions continue their remarkable unbeaten run with a fine home win against Devon side Barnstaple coming out 40-12 winners.
Lions are still 16 points clear at the top.
Hinckley are in 4th
Loughboro' Students are eighth.

Nat 2 West fixtures for the weekend sees leaders Leicester Lions on the road to Redruth in Cornwall, over recent seasons these two sides have had some epic battles, the Lions denying them the points to be promoted in an end of season game, so expect this to be a tough one, but expect the Lions to extend their 16 match unbeaten winning run.
Hinckley are at home to the much improved Newport(Salop) side, both now in a middle of the table scrap, that I expect Hincks to win.
Loughboro' Students have a tricky home game against Bournville, the Choccos are string together a few decent games and are desperate for points to keep away from relegation, I think the Students will win a close one.

Three good results for Leicestershire's National 2 teams, Hinckley had a comfortable home win against Newport(Salop) with a 36-12 result that keeps them in the top four of the league . Loughboro' Students had scare in a close 39-36 tussle with Bournville to find themselves in seventh place.
League leaders Leicester Lions went on a tricky trip to the far end of Cornwall to play promotion rivals Redruth, Lions have had some great matches and this was another with the Lions taking a commanding lead , but Redruth came back before Lions finished off the game with a bonus point win at 7-33, taking Lions closer to the title. They need 5 points from the last four games to be promoted to National league 1.

Loughborough have won the BUCS league

Our loanee Seb Smith was their replacement Loosehead (note he seems to have moved back primarily to playing prop not Hooker again)

Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.
