Re: Promotion from the Championship
Ealing Trailfinders are less than four miles from London Irish who are at Kew Bridge. Does West London really need two professional clubs that close together? Some may say Ealing would attract new premiership fans but I'd have thought they'd steal some from LI and even Quins too.
Re: Promotion from the Championship
Whispers around of Ealing replacing one of the Welsh regions...!
I only live there to wind up the population!

Born October 1936, so a few years older than our Chairman.tigerburnie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 12:13 pm The Ealing benefactor is apparently an octogenarian, whose support may well not last for long, they average around 1000 fans at their home games, so are maybe not quite as financially stable as some may think.
Their average possibly reaches 1000 due to good away support from a few of the Championship clubs. Otherwise it hovers around 750-950.

Re: Promotion from the Championship
Actually, given the state of URC and Wales, merging Ealing with another club, in a B&I league, could just work IF they get a ground share.Hot_Charlie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 10:49 pmThe irony of Ealing becoming London Welsh in all but name!

Re: Promotion from the Championship
Rule 14.1 (I think it is) in the rugby legislation states that cross border games can only take place if the RFU's affected agree, will the English RFU sanction Easpreys playing in a Celtic league in the suburbs of London in direct competition to their own games? They might get to play in Swansea if English money is crossing the Severn and the Welsh are as desperate as some sources are suggesting.
"If you want entertainment, go to the theatre," says Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill. "Rugby players play the game to win.15/1/21.
Re: Promotion from the Championship
Why would the RFU care? They want rid of the lower leagues don't they??...

Re: Promotion from the Championship
I think it was more a case of them stopping giving them money rather than taking it away.

I don’t read the telegraph since it stopped being a newspaper, but there appears an article today about jersey being in a position to win the championship. Anyone know if they meet the criteria for promotion.

Re: Promotion from the Championship
Only Ealing and Doncaster applied for the ground audit this season. Ealing failed, Doncaster passed but aren't in a position to get promoted atm.teds wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 1:12 pm I don’t read the telegraph since it stopped being a newspaper, but there appears an article today about jersey being in a position to win the championship.
