Leicester Tigers gets in on the crypto grift...

If they were going to sink to this kind of garbage, they should have done it a long time ago, before people realised that crypto is basically a scam and the market was routinely having massive freakouts.

My hope is the club is just being stupidly naive rather than actively trying to lead supporters to scams

It's often clueless execs being woo'd by smooth talking crypto investors promising easy money.RagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:19 am My hope is the club is just being stupidly naive rather than actively trying to lead supporters to scams

Oh dear, I am displeased and never thought Tigers would ever elect to indulge in this dubious marketing practice. I certainly never shall

Agree with all of the above. I am really disappointed in the club for partnering with Socios on this.

Blockchain, in itself, is a wonderful technology. However, it really can be misused and over-hyped. This app is not "crypto [currency]" but it uses blockchain.
I agree, however, with all above. This app just looks like a dreadful waste of space and even money IMHO. Tigers must be really short of money to go into business with such a company.

How is this different in principle to the pre-existing fan loyalty scheme? It's just a different provider with a different technology, no? From what I read it uses blockchain or is provided by a blockchain providing company but that's about security of data transfer, not about investment in cryptocurrencies, which I agree would be a weird step for the club to take. Have I missed something?

Agree. Disappointed. I think fans maybe ought to actively voice their displeasure at this particular deal. I'd actually rather have a betting company... and that's saying something.

There doesn't seem to be much, the amount of tokens you have will determine what sort of reward you can get, you are in effect paying for the experience as you would normally but just using a different medium of payment. There is nothing particularly predatory about it, it is not advertising this as an investment or guaranteeing a return on your money.Grimlish wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 12:05 pm How is this different in principle to the pre-existing fan loyalty scheme? Hopefully the club does monitor this space because they need to know this is a horrific misstep and the fact that Football and F1 have also made it does not provide any mitigation. Massively disappointed that our name is associated with this...
No, not that one!
Remember, whatever you do to the smallest of the backs you do to his prop, and you can't avoid the rucks and mauls forever...
I know you don't like it when I boo him but how else will he know he's wrong?
