Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2022/23 - Prisoner of Oadby Pre-Season
Short term deals can be extended though. He's not up here on loan. Sounds like his Aussie team wanted him out so they could bring Latu back from France. Sounds like Horton has plenty of potential but has been limited because of injuries. Short term deal could be anything from four months to the end of the season.
TCD will start the season ahead of Vanes but all being well injury wise might end up back playing for Cornish Pirates by the end of the season. It's the start of the season we'll be short.
Next season might be interesting at the start what with the RWC as well.

Looks like a season at least.
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

This appointment is good news as it fills one of the few gaps IMO

Still think we're short of a senior openside flanker to cover for Reffell being away.markharbtiger wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:11 am This appointment is good news as it fills one of the few gaps IMO

Give Ilione a shot during pre season and maybe a start Vs Falcons. If he's doing the job he can understudy to Reffell and then we always have the move Liebenburg to 7 and go for the power backrow if we need it as well.LekkerTigers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 11:45 amStill think we're short of a senior openside flanker to cover for Reffell being away.markharbtiger wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:11 am This appointment is good news as it fills one of the few gaps IMO

Is Reffell back straight away or does he get extended time off because of the SA tour? Or did he have to play X amount of internationals to qualify for the extended rest? So many questions ,I'm sorry!RagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 11:45 am Well Reffell is with us till November so don’t need to rush

He's back immediately, not an England player so not covered by the RFU agreement on player rests, though the club will not want to injure him so think his return will be phased...Scott1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:09 pmIs Reffell back straight away or does he get extended time off because of the SA tour? Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Thanks, wasn’t sure about the WRFU rest periods and how they worked at English clubs.TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:15 pmHe's back immediately, not an England player so not covered by the RFU agreement on player rests, though the club will not want to injure him so think his return will be phased...Scott1 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:09 pmIs Reffell back straight away or does he get extended time off because of the SA tour? Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2022/23 - Prisoner of Oadby Pre-Season
Outside of injuries we should have start of season
1. Cronin, Whitcombe, Van Wyk, Richardson
2. Clare, Horton, Cowan-Dickie, Vanes
3. Cole, Leatigaga, Hurd, Hoyt
4. Wells, Henderson, Manz
5. Green, Snyman, L.Chessum
6. Liebenberg, Cracknell
7. Reffell, Ilione
8. Martin, Jansen
9. Youngs, Wigglesworth, Edwards
10. Burns, Gopperth, Walsh, Meredith
11. Nadolo, Saumaki, Murimurivalu
12. Kelly, Woodward
13. Scott, Cokanasiga (Injury?), Cusick
14. Potter, Ashton, Browning
15. Watson, Hegarty
I would say those are realistic academy lads who might step up.
Pretty happy with options.

Pretty light at 8 but all those at 6, 7 and 8 (bar Tommy Turnover) can pack down across the back row.RagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:44 pm Outside of injuries we should have start of season

Add Simmons in this and it’s looking good RB!RagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:44 pm Outside of injuries we should have start of season

Question on that, do we think Simmons is seen as a 9 or a back 3 player now?

His latest squad page says both, the training clips on the club's Twitter show him training at 9.RunTigerRun wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 2:18 pmAdd Simmons in this and it’s looking good RB!RagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:44 pm Outside of injuries we should have start of season

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2022/23 - Prisoner of Oadby Pre-Season
Looking at our back 3 options v 9 I feel 9 makes more sense.
Real possibility JVP and Youngs could get a call up.
Even if we lost Watson, Steward and Nadolo we should still have
11. Saumaki, Murimurivalu
14. Potter, Browning
15. Ashton, Hegarty
Plus Burns can cover 15 with Gopperth at 10

When it’s put like that 9 seems more likely!RagingBull wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 2:24 pm Looking at our back 3 options v 9 I feel 9 makes more sense.

Plus that versatility can be used in 6-2 splits on the bench. Having say Simmons and Gopperth on the bench covers the whole backline!
