George McGuigan leaves Newcastle for Gloucester with immediate effect
Jack Singleton probably out for the rest of the season. Falcons have just given Blamire a new deal amongst rumours McGuigan was off at the end of the season. Maybe McGuigan brought that forward with agreement from Falcons or this is a bridging move. Blamire is a good hooker, to big a prospect to keep sitting on the bench.
This could also free up from cash at Falcons to maybe go after some of the out of contract players. Tom West for instance would be an amazing signing for them.

Still can't believe West hasn't been snapped up yet, I'd have him here!
Quins' number two fly half, Tommaso Allen, is said to have signed a two-year contract with Top14's Perpignan and will go to SW France next summer.
Another fly half who could be on the way to France is Gareth Anscombe who may sign for Pau, replacing former Tiger Zack Henry who's going to Stade Français.

Yup Blamire has the potential to be Eng starting no.2. Too good to be on the bench and needs to be starting every week to push on now.

Problem with West I wouldn’t put him ahead of either Cronin or Whitcombe, so would be third choice at best with Van Wyk or Ladygaga off
He's probably further along than Whitcombe but is a few years older. For us he'd make sense if he was signing as a long term deal to replace van Wyk initially and then Cronin who is 32 so won't be a peak performance for a long period (unless he turns in another Dan Cole).
Falcons, however, he'd walk right into the starting shirt and get lots of minutes. He's been in England training squads previously and at 25 should be about to head into his peak years. Ideal for Falcons. A West/Blamire/Davison front row would be physical and pretty solid at set piece.

Is it me or are we accelerating towards football-style transfers where contracts mean nothing if you have the money?
Cheering on the Tigers in Detroit.
Previously a slower, shorter, less good looking version of Tom Croft.

I'm pretty sure it's always been the case - just not so many or so obvious. There have been plenty of loans for the rest of the season ahead of them moving permanently for the next season.
The fact a team feel comfortable releasing their highest try scorer mid season does suggest no relegation is a factor. Blamire may score similar tries if he is playing first choice but McGuigan is a poacher and gets in for very good positions and runs good lines. He has developed that side of his game. It will be inter to see if he is a starter at Gloucester though.

Falcons have a raft of injuries themselves but they have two international hookers. Blamire has played flanker at times this season because they had three good fit hookers but an injury crisis in the backrow. Who's to say this move won't benefit Falcons? McGuigan was off at the end of the season anyway (according to various rumours) and we are in unprecedented times with some of the talent out of contract.
One assumes it also helps the financial situation which may be a big factor .. better to be paid for a couple of good players than end up in the Worcester / Wasps position…. Mind you Wasps would have had to sell several teams worth of players to pay their debts!
