Any code crossers get a 50% cap deduction for switching from Union.
Farrell is rumoured to be one of two marquee players still at Sarries (due to contract lengths they still have 2 along with Itoje) this summer he's out of contract so Sarries need to drop to 1 marquee means a drop in wages.
So all in all they may be able to afford him

maybe not a drop in wages if they instead shed a few other of their higher paid aging playersTigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:05 pm Any code crossers get a 50% cap deduction for switching from Union.

The cap's due to go back up next season too. Hence why they'll have tied their two marquees up on long deals.Jimmy Skitz wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:14 pmmaybe not a drop in wages if they instead shed a few other of their higher paid aging playersTigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:05 pm Any code crossers get a 50% cap deduction for switching from Union.

Billy and Mako are rumoured out of contract as well. With Willis and West they have signed potential long term replacements. Even if either stayed they'd be on much smaller deals than 2021 as well. Their performance had already dipped then, particularly Billy's after injury, but Mako was still a test Lion in 2021.
I know many disagree but I don't look at Sarries squad and think it's suspicious now. TH used to be Koch, Lamositele and Figallo. Now it's Riccioni (identified young), Hoskins (quality week in week out but shouldn't be on more than Heyes for instance) and Judge. Similar that they'd identified the likes of McFarland and Mawi early, then turned them into terrific players who should currently represent great value. Then several of the elder statesmen such as Goode and Maitland wont be earning what they once were.

Absolutely agree about Sarries strength in depth having reduced. Gone are the days of Brits, Burger and Skeleton coming from the bench.
On top of the Vunipolas there are some others coming to the end of their career, George, Goode, Maitland but they have replacements in place either through recruitment or development.
The one big gap would be left if Farrell did move on. Love him or hate him he has been very instrumental in their success and they no one near his quality currently on their staff. It would require heavy investment to replace him

It's something they are going to have to deal with sooner rather than later anyway. Goode is 35 and Farrell is 32. Succession planning is going to be needed. Parton is a good back up/replacement for Goode but losing Malins was a blow (apparently he got paid handsomely to move to Bristol). Manu Vunipola is a decent young 10 but there's no one really in situ after that.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:24 am Absolutely agree about Sarries strength in depth having reduced. They might return to look at Willemse who had a short spell there before and who has a strong kicking game.
Farrell moving on might actually make it simpler as it's a fresh start rather than Farrell supposedly taking more of a back seat as he gets older with someone else coming in which will be difficult as Farrell is extremely competitive and unlikely to sit back into the mentor role.

Yes (and this is not Farrell bashing just adding to your observation),as with England a guy like Farrell is better completely out the way. Unless he becomes a none playing coach of coursesam16111986 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 10:37 amIt's something they are going to have to deal with sooner rather than later anyway. It’s a very good question and probably holds firm for loosehead now after Genge.Jimmy Skitz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 2:25 pmbut who? most of the best tightheads aren't EnglishRugbygramps wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 2:24 pmBorthwick needs to start looking for some test quality alternatives then, and quicklyJimmy Skitz wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 2:21 pm

Even if Cole gives him another 6 nations that will be his limit.
Ehren Painter who moved to Exeter this season is an option and possibly look at Will Collier again
