Re: Formerly of this parish
Lavin starting for Saints at 7 in the Premiership Cup
Re: Formerly of this parish
That is one massive disparity of a match. Saracens on a bye week so put most of the first team out as a pre-season run out and Saints have to field the kids. Not exactly fair.

Re: Formerly of this parish
So Saints have a game in the premiership cup tonight and a game in the premiership tomorrow??
That can't be right can it?

Re: Formerly of this parish
No different really to having the mid-week Cup games. Essentially going to be two different squads (unless a team has a bye week on week 1... oh, Sarries).

Re: Formerly of this parish
I’m assuming they are squeezing fixtures in because of the need to get the season finished earlier. Our1st PRC game is September 20 between Falcons and Saints premiership games
Re: Formerly of this parish
This just sums up to ridiculous nature of this competition in that it is widely understood to be one for reserves and developing players but there is nothing to compell that to happen and so you have most of a first team versus an academy side and Saracens also get the benefit of a pre-season warm up game in full match conditions. Nothing seems right about this, it is not as if you could argue that Saints could put out a stonger team with the first team in action the day after.

It's basically just given Sarries a free pre-season run out in this case. Another reason to fix the daft 13 team Premiership.GB72 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 10:47 am This just sums up to ridiculous nature of this competition in that it is widely understood to be one for reserves and developing players but there is nothing to compell that to happen and so you have most of a first team versus an academy side and Saracens also get the benefit of a pre-season warm up game in full match conditions. Sorry don’t get that statement, they have put out a strong side but not necessarily their best. Do you really think that any of the other 12 teams would do much different if they had a bye week first up.Old Hob wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:41 pmAnd another insight into the ethics and 'values' of SaracensHot_Charlie wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 11:04 amIt's basically just given Sarries a free pre-season run out in this case. Re: Formerly of this parish
Considering the nature of the competition and the fact that the opposition cannot match their selection policy then, yes, I would like to think that most clubs would put out a side appropriate for the early rounds of such an event. My main issue, however, is that a fixture has been put in the calendar that allows this to happen.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:45 pmSorry don’t get that statement, they have put out a strong side but not necessarily their best. I think any other team would do the same and treat it as a squad size limited pre-season match.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:45 pmSorry don’t get that statement, they have put out a strong side but not necessarily their best. Re: Formerly of this parish
I totally agree with you but that is the fault of the fixture calendar not Sarries. Why should they or any other team go into week 2 half cooked through no fault of their own. If it was Tigers I would be disappointed if we didn’t give some of our big guns a run out.GB72 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 12:53 pmConsidering the nature of the competition and the fact that the opposition cannot match their selection policy then, yes, I would like to think that most clubs would put out a side appropriate for the early rounds of such an event. Well, the spirit of the game is well and truly dead in some parts.

No it’s just called Professionalism
An honest question Old Hob would you have made the comment you made about any other club that had a bye this weekend and put out a stronger side in the PRC. I suspect not.
