Exeter Chiefs
Some of the more avid news readers amongst us may have noticed the battle between fans of Exeter Chiefs about whether their branding is racist or cultural appropriation or not. I don't really know the answer to that, or particularly care, but I have always considered the native American branding to be completely bizarre for a Devonian rugby club.
With that in mind, perhaps we could help them come up with something more fitting. My initial suggestions, having previously lived in Devon for some years, are as follows:
Exeter Donkeys (after their World renowned donkey sanctuary)
Exeter Students (most of the population of the city is now University students, it seems)
Exeter Fishermen
Exeter Romans
Exeter Tuckers (cloth trade history)
And finally... Exeter Hillbillies, for all my Devonian friends.
Any other helpful suggestions for them?

Personally I don't think it's appropriate and they'll probably change their name now it's out in public. I don't see how they can keep it in the current times.
As for names, why not just Exeter RUFC.

On the theme of rugby clubs getting their names, where does Leicester Tigers come from?

Re: Exeter Chiefs
I’m not sure they need to change the name, but just move to a more culturally acceptable branding. The origin of their “Chiefs” name may be as old as our “Tigers”; apparently it’s a common Devonian practice for the 1st XV to be called “Chiefs”. The Native American branding came far later to match the name and create an identity.
That said, when a decision is made, they may consider the brand toxic?
I prefer Gloucester’s approach.
