Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2018/19 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 5
IF Wallace can get into his 2016 form, it's a good signing.
Big IF.
But IMO we are well covered for 7 next season.
Thompson the best 7 we have currently IMO.
Reffell - Wales U20 captain
Gough - Was in the England U20 training squad.
Eveleigh - Academy Captain.
Wallace would add some experienced depth, and doubt he will be expensive.
On the
"Why is a young South African better than Wallace?"
Thats more a squad balance thing, EQP v Non EQP has to play a factor.
Say we are signing a youngish SA super rugby centre that would most likely mean we couldn't sign one at openside for example, and what position would we most likely need a youngish player in? As above we have 3 young opensides coming up why sign another SA one?

Wallace would be at least as good as Thompson imho.
As mentioned he has been seriously unlucky with injuries and also suffered through Conner O’Shea’s insistence at playing him as a 6 to accommodate Robshaw at 7.
He is a better all round player than Evans, who has been injured as much recently, and who is at least 5th in line for the England spot, behind, Underhill, the 2 Currys, and Earl.

I understand your thought process but how far are Gough and Eveleigh away from first team level because Thompson and Wallace are sicknotes.

Sicknotes!! Hate that word. They have been injured playing for their clubs.

Apologies I should have included Jack Willis in my original list who was exceptional yesterday considering he has been out injured for 9 months. I can see him making a real challenge for the plane to Japan.
It is a sad fact that until the laws of the game are changed to stop players flying into rucks to clear out the jacket, who more often than not is the 7, the number of injuries picked up by flankers will increase and therefore strength in depth is required

I'm sure there are people on this forum with a far better appreciation of second-row play than me but, watching Calum Green pretty closely today vs warriors I was pretty unimpressed tbh.
Happy days clearing straw from the pitch before the Baa-Baas games! KBO

Agreed, didn’t really seem to do much, bar getting pinged for a neck roll at rucktime.strawclearer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 4:59 pm I'm sure there are people on this forum with a far better appreciation of second-row play than me but, watching Calum Green pretty closely today vs warriors I was pretty unimpressed tbh.

1 game and people already writing Green off...
1 turnover won, 9 tackles, 0 missed, pretty good showing in defence for a lock.
Interesting that Will Welch's grandfather played 198 games for us.

I wasn't "writing him off" - simply that I watched him fairly closely and wasn't overly impressed.RagingBull wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 6:05 pm 1 game and people already writing Green off...

I'd rather keep Evans but if he's made up his mind then Wallace could be an inexpensive but experienced player to bridge the gap with Reffell, Gough and Eveligh coming through.
Kitchener ----> Green
Williams ----> Taufua
O'Connor ----> Wallace
Evans ----> Reffell
Taufua will be on more than any individual outgoing there so if saving some cap by replacing BOC with Wallace permits Taufua coming in then so be it.

Is that a hint there RB?RagingBull wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 6:05 pmInteresting that Will Welch's grandfather played 198 games for us.
Tigers tried to sign Welch repeatedly in the past I thought but he always opted to stay at Falcons.
