Prop loan from Bristol - Ellis Genge

Interesting call - backup for Balmain??

Bristol Rugby prop Ellis Genge has joined Leicester Tigers on a loan agreement with immediate effect.
The prop will return to Bristol and be available for selection for the Greene King IPA Championship play-offs.

The 21-year-old Genge has made 26 first-team appearances at Bristol, scoring six tries.

He told bristolrugby.co.uk: "I'm grateful to Andy Robinson and the club for showing understanding to my personal situation and facilitating this loan agreement.

"I'd like to thank everybody at Bristol Rugby for their continued support and look forward to contributing to the promotion challenge later in the season."

A product of Hartpury College, Genge has represented England at under-17 and under-20 levels, including the run to the Junior World Championship Final in 2015. He made his senior debut for Bristol in the British & Irish Cup in 2013/14.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: "We've been looking to add to our pool of props available for the remainder of the season and Ellis is a young man who has gained some useful experience in the last couple of seasons with Bristol. He'll get straight down to work here in a good group of front rowers."

Anyone sense this is a long term signing?

To me it seems that Bristol have allowed him to be released early but want him back for play offs where depht is going to be really important then maybe he will come back to us?

Might be clutching at straws but he is very talented.

You have to assume that it's a loan deal as opposed to a permanent one at present in name only in order for Bristol to have him for the play-offs. Otherwise, why would they loan him out now?

It wouldn't make much sense as a short term signing though surely.

Bristol supporters reckon he is off now, hence why he hasn't played much for them recently.

He's a loosehead - he played alongside Paul Hill for the U20s - so he's not covering Balmain. However, this might see Mulipola starting at tighthead with Genge and Balmain benching. At least until Cole returns from national duty, at which point Balmain and Genge can possibly rotate that fourth prop spot.

Depending how he goes in training, of course - it wouldn't be the first time a talented young prop has joined Tigers and disappeared from view.

An under-20 England international earning the opportunity to learn from one of the best looseheads in the world in Marcos Ayerza. Let's hope he rises to what is surely more than a short-term signing to his - and our - benefit!

I thought we had Matias Aguero in on loan. Has he gone back?

Aguero is injured I think - Genge looks very tidy, converted from No8 a couple of years ago - looked very good for England U20s

IF he is tidy, why on heavens earth would Bristol not be playing him ??

Another stop gap...

SURELY we have the dosh to go out and buy, toute de suite, a top notch pair of all singing and dancing filthy nasty props, getting rid of all the ones who most definitely are not up to scratch.

Rumour locally is that this is a permanent deal - the "strange" arrangement this year being the agreement to get him early.

(Source of rumour being another Bristol youngster who knows/trains with/plays with Genge - but still a youngster and so prone to exaggeration!)

Bristol fans I've talked to rate Genge highly and think he is a big loss.

Everyone wants big nasty props. Most teams have money and some more than us.. just not that many about of the standard we're used to.

Also he has played for Bristol

just look at the rate of scoring. The front row union will be having words.

Hardly stop gap signing.

We are signing a prop a veteran prop who is apprently a big scrummaging type of prop.

He has been playing for Bristol but apparently was a fallout after he was arrested.

Also wouldn't be the first time Robinson missed a trick.

Honestly in the U20 World Cup him, Walker and Hill destroyed SA scrum and Genge destroyed Super rugby prop Thomas du Toit.

I remember it well and personally I thought Hill was the main man and streets ahead.

Arrested?

Must be worth a punt to be fair but what bothers me more is we have had years of hearing that Brugnara, Hills or maybe even Sio are the next big thing and then this guy walks in.
All a complete waste of hot air, same happened when Wells was the next big thing and in walks Barrow and did more in one game than Wells did in five years.
Too much hot air about, we'll see what he does around the big boys!
