Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
The playing surface in front of the Crumbie is a disgrace, a mud bath that both teams tried to avoid, Nigel Owens was lenient and did not "scrum on the bog", we have a narrow pitch but we have lost a 10 metre by about 75 metre strip of playing surface.
The Wasps re laid the Ricoh with turf and yes there could be problems with shallow turf but obviously the noticeable machining marks have not worked and seeding is out in winter.
They replaced the Wembley pitch and played on the new surface in 7 days so whilst we have an away game time for specialist action.
Yes I realise the pitch was covered & snow on top but it is our Tigers pitch and not the National Bog-snorkling Centre yet!

It won't be done until the summer, when the clubhouse end is being done up

Replace the DOR
Replace the Captain
Replace the Board
Replace the Players
Replace the Coaches
Replace the Kit
and now Replace the Turf
When will this madness stop.

We could join Sarries and do a plastic pitch!!

When Tigers stop pretending to be a top club and start acting like one!RagingBull wrote:Replace the DOR

Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
Just wonder why have they not put some sand on that area, nothing seems to have been done to it, yet nearby sand has been applied. Strange also to see at half time ground staff repairing small foot marks with forks, but not going near the bog? Is it being left because of a possible dispute with concert people? Looks embarrassing for our club.
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
Tigers will reflect on the benefit of the concert vs a vs our pitch being reduced to a bog as a consequence with still some 4 months left of the season! No doubt it will have to be left to fester until the season end when as in every year the pitch is ploughed up back to bare soil and reseeded with grass to grow over the summer for the next season. Another Concert please
Without hope we are nothing, keep the faith, a Tiger for eternity
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
Apparently when the stewards arrived there was standing water on the mud and the ground staff were busy forking the surface to get rid of it. The problem was started by the concert and compounded by the fact that that strip never gets any direct sunlight. I think it's been reseeded but it hasn't taken and there's not much they can do without major work that can only be done in the close season. Happy days ahead.
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
That concert was an absolute nonsense from start to finish. One of the worst line ups I have ever seen for a festival, a stage put in completely the wrong place (you use the length of the pitch surely!?) , comically low ticket sales and attendance. The promoter must still be having cold sweats about that weekend.
Plus Tigers were really naive in championing it themselves, covering it live on the website etc. It gave people the impression that it was a Tigers event, when it wasn't. It was merely an event renting Welford Road.
Whoever failed to protect the pitch properly from the stage needs bringing to account. An absolutely unforgivable mistake if you are using a sports stadium as a concert venue.
They manage countless gigs at the Ricoh Arena, Sunderland, Wembley and the likes without managing to make such a balls up of it. Absolutely staggering!

Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
But the Richo has a concert hall as part of the complex doesn't it?
Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
Perhaps it does. But when I saw Bruce Springsteen there I was definitely standing on a well protected pitch.
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
But surely a bit of sand would help?
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
Beyond sand.
Beyond stupid to put the stage on the bit of the pitch that gets the most wear and tear. They should have used the A&L stand and build the stage up from there, if they absolutely have to do it again.
I wouldn't be against the hybrid pitch that Wasps are putting in the Ricoh in the off season turning up at Welford road. If anything the pitch situation is more pressing that the stands now!

Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
But something has to be tried now, its no use just stating what they should not have done, sand or load of sawdust just might help.
Re: Now is the time to returf in front of the Crumbie.
I happen to know the groundsman was spitting fire when he saw what it had done to the pitch too.
All this for a badly organised event by a promoter massively out of his depth that got a laughably small crowd.
Which is a shame, because if we have the licence to host live music events this should be something we allow to happen properly as an added revenue stream. As it is, there have been three concerts that the club felt compelled to market to rugby fans and wrongly set up to use the Cat stand as the main viewing area. If you use the pitch as a standing area, investing in proper pitch protection material, and open up the stands you could have the capacity to host some of the biggest acts around. Instead we have had some right tin pot acts, with the club treating them as their event for Tigers fans. We're really missing a trick with the licence we've got. Who is failing to market it as a facility?
