According to Planet Rugby, SANZAR is looking into new proposals for Super Rugby, one of which would involve South Africa leaving the competition by 2016. This could be in favour of them (South Africa) 'being joined by Argentinean or possibly European teams in a separate competition.'
Hmm ...
South Africa to leave Super Rugby?

South Africa to leave Super Rugby?
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.
Re: South Africa to leave Super Rugby?
I doubt the premiership is under threat because I would have thought the costs of flying every other week would be rather unattractive.
A replacement for the HC involving England, France and SA would be quite an attractive competition for sponsors.

As mentioned above, I don't think the Premiership would be affected and I'm sure the French wouldn't let anything upset their Top 14 so I can't visualise a worthwhile competition that would satisfy all countries.

Money talks.
Re: South Africa to leave Super Rugby?
A competition featuring SA and Europe has always been a far more sensible proposition especially as jet lag would be eliminated!
Also the money is in Europe, as are most of the Argentines........

For attractive competition for sponsors, read Saffacens.drc_007 wrote:A replacement for the HC involving England, France and SA would be quite an attractive competition for sponsors.
They'd be all over that as a means of bringing Saracens to their intended core support
Ask not what your Tigers can do for you, but what you can do for your Tigers
Re: South Africa to leave Super Rugby?
Personally, I would love to see the SA provinces play against our best (and occasionally worst!!) in the N.H.
That would mean, though, that NZ and Australia would be left pretty much isolated, especially if Argentina also go the same direction.
As much as I dislike the SH ethos, this kind of change really wouldn't benefit rugby as a whole.
Shame though, I would love to see the Tigers take on the South Africans ----- oh! we did - and what a game that was !!!!!
