Andy Farrell leaves Saffas for England???

Post by Bertos »

According to the Mail (so can't guarantee) Andy Farrell has walked out on Saracens in order to become part of the England set up on a permenant basis:

Beat me to it Bertos, just tagged this on the end of another Farrell thread from way back. I saw it on Sky sports News.

Lets hope Catt gets the backs playing some brilliant rugby so we do not get Farrell back. He is a good coach at club level but the style of play he uses is not good enough to compete with the top international teams.

Not positive news more a backward step. Cynical view, but I believe his ultimate motivation was to minder his sons england career :smt012

The ticker on the BBC website says Farrell won't be going to South Africa. I'm hoping Catty makes a good job of the tour so it would be difficult to dismiss him in favour of Farrell.

I don't really see that it is a choice between Farrell and Catt - fundamentally one is an attack coach and one is a defence coach (and both seem very good in those roles). With Rowntree covering the set piece I'd have thought that the three together with Lancaster to supervise could be a very good set up. The idea of a backs and forward coach grates with me as it is a 15 main game and you need all 15 players whether you are in attack or defence.

The timing of this announcement is interseting; from a Saracens point of view it is fair enough as it gives them enough time to sort everything out before the start of next season, but from an England point of view it puts a little bit of pressure on Catt who will now know that one of the main contenders for the role he is temporarily filling is now available for job offers. Will be interesting if Catt cam get the backs playing well to see who England appoint permenantly.

Farrell does not seem to be the type of person to jump without knowing where he is going to land.

He has acknowledged how much he owes Sarries, and would not be leaving without good reason.

Anyone know how long is Farrell Jr's contract with Sarries?

My best guess is a few weeks rest, and then a hook up as England defence coach, which would be right up his street.
