Julian Salvi to Leicester - confirmed

Post by Btiger24 »

Anyone know if this is true?

Brumbies flanker Salvi was on the verge of putting pen to paper on a North East switch up until a week ago, when a last-minute change of heart saw him sign up for another season in Canberra.

The Journal understands that the Australia A international could well be Leicester-bound this time next year, but his decision last week has left Falcons bosses again scouring the world for talent after Fourie had earlier snubbed Newcastle for Sale Sharks.

It says "this time next year" so who knows, a lot can change in a year.

I can't believe anything can be certain regarding next year allready. As tb1 said a lot can change in a year. He would be a good signing thought.

Wasn't he at Barff for a season?

Yes but then he went back to the Brumbies to replace George Smith at 7, he is a "proper" 7 so could be what we are looking for.

He would be a very good signing, however as has been said a lot can happen in a year, as highlighted in the article the player could have a change of heart and decide against it. Remember the Juan Martin Hernandez saga that was going on for a long time. The longer a rumour is going on the more sceptical I become.

He is a good abrasive player, works hard and carries well but whilst at Bath he was known for conceding quite a few penalties at the breakdown. Went home to try and get into the international fold. Don't think he will make it. Good club player but not really international quality. Could be worth a punt if Newby was to leave at the end of the season. Can't see Tigers tapping him up this far in advance though that would be very far sighted given the physical nature of sport and the penchant for injuries.

Didnt Hernandez only end up pulling out because of Loffredas sacking?

Not as I recall it; Stade Fr. did a U-turn at the 11th hour. IIRC Tigers were pretty much all set to announce the deal when the whole thing collapsed.

And in the process, we missed out on signing Nick Evans, who was keen to come here but got fed up with being messed about.

Now that was an opportunity missed.

Who would you rather have though? Evans or Flood?! Neither would want to be playing second fiddle! It's a tough one!

Flood was only signed after the Hernandez thing fell through. Tigers lined up Hernandez with Evans as a second choice but with the Hernandez deal dragging Evans was unhappy that he was merely a contingency and told the board to go and do one. He then signed for Quinns, Hernandez signed for another year at Stade and we picked up Flood as we needed a 10 after the Newcastle chairman decided to ditch his English internationals/prospective internationals.

If we had got both Evans and Flood I imagine Flood would have played 12, and would probably be playing 12 for england!
