How is informing fans of the laws of the game stupid?
If you are off your feet you must either regain your footing or play the ball. There's nowhere in the lawes that says the opposition must allow you to stand up, a ref spent a good deal of time walking me through the law on that one after a beer fuelled debate. The law only stipulates that the player on the floor must play the ball and cannot hold onto it.

All this is getting very silly, could we revert to the topic please?

Discussion of the rules of the game and Mr Barnes (S) can be made elsewhere, start a new thread if you wish.

Discussion about all things piratical belongs on Chit Chat please

Yes the player can not just lie there but the defending player can not just dive on top of the player so when mr barnes says he has to let the player up he is in fact correct that the defender has to allow the player to attempt to get up or play the ball before competing.

Yes but Kingol if you remain on your feet then you are free to play the ball and the person on the floor must release. If you dive in then you are off your feet and out of the game. There has been no tackle and so you are under no obligation to let the person on the floor place the ball. They can try to get up but if the player on their feet has their hands on the ball whilst they did so that would constitute holding on and be a penalty.

Apologies for thread stealing.

During the Leinster game I had the truly remarkable experience of watching the match in the kitchen whilst listening to the radio on the deck (whilst doing a BBQ) and walking between the two

It was hysterical because it was as if there were two different games going on

Barnes and co saying Tigers where slowing the ball down and rightly getting penalised and had not come to play - meanwhile Bled and Steve Johnson saying that Leinster had only come to slow the ball down and interfere at the breakdown and where being allowed to get away with it by Owens

Actually I don't care for either of them as sets commentators so maybe the mute button would be a good idea........... but tricky on radio mind you!

You may as well, Rizzo. I think the original message has got across.
Whatever you do, don't argue. We might never hear from you again.
