Should Best be cited?

Post by Smudge »

The "tackle" on Deacon was dangerous to put it mildly.
He produced quite a few like that on others.
I know Tiger won't site but if the independent bloke had his
glasses on he should.

In answer to the question - yes, not a tackle, was dangerous and resulted in injury. Also it was one of a series of swinging arms in the game. He should have had 10 minutes in my opinion. That said, i wasn't the ref! :smt002

Just for future note its 'cited'. But I agree with you. And there was a high tackle on Castro as well!

Best has previous. Should be a ban.

From where I sat the tackle on Deacon wasn't illegal - just a hard hit with lots of momentum on a player standing almost still. The injury was caused more by a clash of heads that anything else.

Mauger could be cited though - he charged the opposition fly half late/off the ball and with attempt to wrap the arms. The only reason he might not be cited would be because their guy rode it well

No, not for the tackle on Brett anyway.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

I've seen a lot worse go uncited - but it didn't look good. My guess is that it'll be judged against the lack of serious damage to Deacon and they'll let it drop.

Thank you for the spelling correction. It was late at night and I was tired and confused!!
Apropos the offences, for those who were there and didn't think he was that bad, have a look at the video. Cynical stuff.

He's not a South Sea Islander and so will probably get away with it.
Whenever a Samoan/Fijian/Tongan does something like this it is gone over ad infinitum, when Best, Banahan etc do it it is usually let go after some minor comment,

When I watched the video later He appeared to be the only one to throw a punch in the handbagging melee in the second half. Still it was a good game and fantastic atmosphere.
The older I get the better I use to play.

For once in my life, I have to agree with Stuart Barnes - it wasn't a tackle. It wouldn't surprise me if he did get cited.

Cheers for us enlightening us all, buddy.

Just one for you too, just a little reminder really, because, God forbid, I wouldn't want to be patronising at all, but I would say it should be IT IS cited, or, even, IT'S cited.

Just a gentle nudge in the ribs in the interests of grammatical integrity.

He had three things that he could be cited for - the 'tackle' on Brett Deacon, landing punches in the handbags incident second half and then trying to take Castro's head off second half - take your pick!

Please no attempted nudges to the ribs or you may get cited. :smt023

Sorry but I vehemently disagree with those who say he should not be cited for the near decapitation of Deacon. He made no attempt to tackle but deliberately went high with a straight arm hit with every intention of injuring.

He tried it on Castro too but as Castro was much bigger than Deacon Castro just shrugged it off.

I will be amazed if the citing officer turns a blind eye to this one.
