agree with you there dave, my family with nick in it was really funny, but didn't watch it after he left because it wasn't as funny.
some other funny ones (even though i'm a bit young for these i still watch them) Allo Allo (comedy about a french cafe owner in the second world war that unwillingly joins the rsistance, its funny for so many reasons but one of my favourites is herr flick of the gestappo) and Mind Your Language (you have to have watched it to no precisely what its about and why its funny

M*A*S*H was brilliant, but I don't really class it as a sitcom, as BJ mentions you could be laughing one episode and crying the next.
Also the Carry on films, although legendary, were films not sitcoms (Clue is in the description ).
What era were these 'Dustbinmen'?
Also, strangely attracted to My Family.

Our period of waiting is over - this is the time.
Mind Your Language? :censored: Hell, I'd forgotten about that one!
Open All Hours
Yes (Prime) Minister
were definitely my two favourites
MASH I absolutely love, no matter how many times I've seen it, but agree it isn't really a sitcom.
Yes to Blackadder - I have wibbles with monotonous regularity (but now I'm taking the medicine)

Only Fools and Horses
The Royle Family
Father Ted
Fawlty Towers
Some Mothers Do Have 'em
Sorry
The Office (The English one)
Extras
The Young Ones
Blackadder
Porridge
Alan Partridge
Catherine Tate (Especially the elderly woman and Lauren the teenage schoolgirl)
Little Britain (Lou and Andy, Vicky Pollard)
Can't think of any Amercian ones but some Sex and The City episodes are quite funny - even though it's not a sitcom - neither are some of the above but they do make me laugh and I'll never get bored of them I also liked Ally McBeal cause it was just weird and quirky - dancing at bus stops - reminds me of my cheerful bus stop.
I have to say here, the English are the best at making decent comedy.
