Just a couple of points.
last saturday an English rugby team played an Irish rugby team in a huge game with a lot at stake. There was hardly any police in the ground no segregation and no trouble. If that was a soccer game then there would have been a huge police prescence and a totally different atmosphere. England play Ireland in rugby every year never any trouble. England played Ireland in soccer and Landsdowne road was wrecked.
Soccer fans will say only a minority cause trouble maybe so but it happens and the huge police operations that have to happen so a sporting contest can take place is unbelieveable and it's accepted as the norm.
The general atmosphere at soccer is far more aggressive the chanting and posturing etc.Look at the abuse that Rooney got when he returned to Everton the hatred was incredible from small kids to old men.
Don't judge people from their social background judge them on how they behave.

Soccer is rotten with false values corruption greedy players and the point that seems to be lost on this soccer fan that the corporate element has much more of a stronghold in Soccer than Rugby.

The only gripe I have with Rugby is that any kid who wants to play should be able to play whether the are from a council estate or country estate should be no barrier in playing the game. Where I come from (limerick) anyone can play. In other parts of ireland that wasn't allways the case but thank god it is opening up now.
Hopefully there is no barrier to anyone who wants to play playing in the Uk. Because the more people who play the better this great game will be.

Yep, aWe do need to wipe out the classism that still exists in the game, especally admite the youth set-up wehre, if you don't go to a private/grammer school, you have no chance of being seclected.

A lot of Tigers players past and present are former pupils of John Cleveland College in Hinckley. This is not a grammer school, it's a community college.

I chose rugby and the Tigers because that is what I prefer. No class issues, no snobery, it just provides the entertainment and passion I am looking for- simple.

LCFC, get a life. This is a rugby forum with a passionate core. If you can't stand the heat get out of the fire - oh, you have, no responses recently!

“well, because of people like YOU mr. LCFC, fan segregation takes up a few hundred seats, putting nets down to stop savages like yourself climbing over the seats and biting each other's hands.”
i said that, however you've taken it completely out of context, i said about 10 times in my post that i support tigers and city equally. you can't then go and remove all that and make it sound like i'm branding all city fans hooligans, i meant it in the way that you coming on this board and behaving like that bears similar quality's of a hooligan.

pbanks792 wrote:Well said BJ :D I've never been to a football match, so can't comment on that, but I know people who have, and don't feel safe there. Do feel very safe at rugby matches though. No problem sitting with opposition supporters. We went to Munster v Biarritz at the Millenium last year, surrounded by non-Tigers!! Made to feel very welcome, despite the hand of Back
To be perfectly honest I've always felt safe enough at football, I had one bad incident when i was younger, disgracful behavour from Balckburn fans attacking a young kid, but most of the time it's okay. You don't get much trouble with Forest anyways, to be honest. But I wouldn't take anyone younger than 15/16, it ain't that safe.

i don't think there's much threat at all at football games. yes, everybody tries to make themself sound the 'ard man' by chanting about how if they had 'the wings of a sparrow, the bum of a crow, they'd fly over forest tommorow, and :censored: on, :censored: on, :censored: on the :censored: below' but very few are willing to get into a situation that'd see them banned for a year or so.

there's thousands of stone island, burberry wearing little chavs at city games at the moment, but none of them are anything to be worried about.

Apologies for what I suspect will turn into a long post.

I've been following LCFC's threads with interest and occasional horror since Friday, but revision for the Geography A2 exam I sat this afternoon has meant I haven't added much yet.

WharfedaleTiger/pbanks792 - my dad first took me to a City match in 1997, when I was eight. After reading the forum last night, I asked him whether he had any qualms about doing so. His reply was that his only concern had been that he could be condemning me to a life of false hope and disappointment  I've now been to 85-90 (ish) City matches. Although I've seen a handful of incidents in that time, I couldn't really say I've ever felt unsafe.

BelperJon - a few years ago, Millwall fans were banned from travelling to their match against City at the Walkers; inevitably, some Millwall fans still got tickets. A month later, the City fans magazine "The Fox" included a letter from one of those Millwall fans. He thanked the City fans sitting around him for "a great day" (despite Millwall losing the match 4-1) - they treated him "really well" despite the fact that he didn't conceal that he was a Millwall fan. Also, thanks to FIFA's incompetence at distributing tickets, a lot of the World Cup matches last year were effectively unsegregated. The only trouble reported IIRC was outside the grounds, in some cases, on days when there wasn't even a game - none actually during matches. While your incident at Pride Park is certainly far from unique, those examples would seem to show that football is not entirely devoid of rugby's spirit of mixing with opposing fans.

LCFC - the first time my dad and I (if you want to know - we're relatively middle class - my dad is a retired bank manager, my mum a teacher) went to a game at Welford Road in September, we came away with two observations about Tigers supporters in relation to City supporters. One, there seemed to be a large number of young people (18-30, say) at the Tigers, when you see (and stats on STHs back this up) less and less from that age group at City - a worrying trend (for City) if it continues. Two, the supporters at Welford Road didn't (in general) look too different from a City crowd - perhaps more the sort of people you would expect to see in the East Stand at the Walkers rather than the Kop - but nonetheless, we wouldn't agree with your "gentry" theory.

As to which team is "bigger" (covered in LCFC's original thread) I use the following metaphor: City and Tigers are climbing two tall trees. City are well above halfway on their tree, but still some way from the top, and with little prospect of ever being able to reach the very summit. Tigers, on the other hand, sit near the top of their tree, if not at the top. However, because the tree Tigers were climbing was slighter smaller than City's - in terms of distance from the ground - they are about the same :) .

Yeah fair enough., Just to say about ym experiences of LCFC fans, you all seem akay. I'd been to the Walkers with Forest 3 times, and seen you play us at The City Ground. You are all okay really. Loud, big away support but your really a small fry...

Whoops  . That possibly wasn't the best analogy! :D

Wharfedale - no need to rub it in that City have never won League or Cup. We can't all win back to back European Cups! :) We've never been outside the top top divisions :D yet :(
