I can foresee a situation where both Ollie Chessum and Henderson are back with the club in September
My guess would be that Steve will take one of Chessum and Martin. Could go both but in a squad lacking time together the experience of Ribbans and Hill will probably be seen as useful.

Henderson has an outside chance at selection but he needs to wow in the friendlies or get some help via an injury to another lock.
I think it maybe too late for Chessum unfortunately. A lot of pundits seem to feel Martin is pretty much nailed on.
Bit confused by your comment of a squad lacking time together when they have training constantly together for the month of July
Yeah I really should have read that back before posting it. Wasn't the point I was trying to make. I was thinking more that there's no established second row combinations and more just Itoje and whomever was flavour of the month.

If Chessum doesn't make it back then Martin probably will be nailed on. Versatility plus his form towards the end of the season should at least get him a foot in the door and game time in the friendly to try and claim the shirt.

I do think that Martin and Itoje could be a really strong combination.
Itoje played some of his bust rugby when partnered with Kruis a similar player to Martin

Charlie Morgan tweeted about England training today, apparently Chessum is scrummaging again albeit at 6, which bodes well.

Watching the latest edition of The Rose, which centres on Itoje, Chessum is seen taking a full part in the Watt bike session etc but I couldn’t spot him in any of the contact work on the pitch which was at a fair old intensity.
As you say bodes well, whether he will be match fit enough to take part in any of the pre world games who knows

I think Chessum could be that important that even if you only believe you can get a couple of later group games out of him and he possibly won't make Argentina you still take him. If he ends up being ruled out he can be immediately replaced.

Clarifies that Martin and Chessum have scrummaged at both lock and 6.

An even better sign then.

Being as the game this weekend is the only one before the squad announcement you'd imagine a lot of the fringe players will get a shot, would be surprised if the likes of Farrell, George, Genge, Sinckler, Curry, Watson and Steward appear
