England squad for summer tour 2024 to New Zealand
Do we know when Steve Borthwick names the squad for the summer tour?
I would like to test the following back line:
15 Steward
I4 IFW
13 Freeman
12 Kelly
11 Sleighthome

Yes, there's a training squad due this weekend. Players will come in and out as the playoffs progress.

Re: England squad for summer tour
I think it’s likely that Borthwick will go with Lawrence and Slade, but it would be good for Kelly and Ojomoh to tour as back ups. It’s also a shame Olly Hartley is injured.
According to the Telegraph, a squad of around 20 is expected to be named on Sunday afternoon: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union ... n-england/
I would be tempted to go with:
Marler, Baxter*
Blamire
Cole, Heyes
Martin
Tuima*, Batley*
Roots
Evans*, Fisilau*
Cunningham-South
Van Poortvliet, Randall
M Smith
Malins
Kelly
Slade
Feyi-Waboso
Steward
(* uncapped)
Cheering on the Tigers in Detroit.
Previously a slower, shorter, less good looking version of Tom Croft.

Must say Charlie Atkinson over say Kelly is an odd one, I suppose they want two 10s in the squad but with only 19 players it seems an odd one...

Re: England squad for summer tour
Kelly's return to form deserved a spot in the squad. A missed opportunity for England's future.

Agree re Kelly seems a strange omission.
As I suspected looks like Coley gets the summer off. Nothing to prove by taking him and succession needs sorting ASAP

"Props Dan Cole and Joe Marler are available for this summer's Tests but will not link up with England until the next camp on 4 June."
Seems your suspicion may not be correct.

Absolutely honestly didn’t think he’d go that way for 3 games. Just goes to show you. Thanks for the linkWhitecapTiger wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 7:44 pmhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union ... 00g5n38z1oRugbygramps wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 7:35 pm Agree re Kelly seems a strange omission.

Nor me, hoped Coley would get the summer off too for Tigers' benefit. Flip side is he may not join up on 4th June, but can see Borthwick wanting DC's experiene down there, even if not playing.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 8:02 pmAbsolutely honestly didn’t think he’d go that way for 3 games. Charlie Atkinson is a bit of a shock! Has he even played much this year? Was Borthwick responsible for his signing at Tigers?

Re: England squad for summer tour
I suspect Cole being dropped after the 2019 World Cup probably has a lot to do with him wanting to play for England for as long as he can. As he’s talked about about the disappointment and thought he wouldn’t get back in.WhitecapTiger wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 8:08 pmNor me, hoped Coley would get the summer off too for Tigers' benefit. No Mercer….ineffective on Friday night. Or were the players in finals not considered?
