Black Lions match

Post by TigerFeetSteve »

This is billed as a Leicester Tigers XV rather than Leicester Tigers.

Personally I hope it's a cross between leavers who we may not get a chance to say bye to otherwise and development guys.

15. Gourlay
14. Cusick
13. Porter
12. Woodward
11. Kinder
10. Wilkinson
9. Allan
1. Whitcombe (c)
2. Dolly
3. Richardson
4. T.Manz
5. Martin/Wells
6. Carnduff
7. Ilione
8. Koroiyadi (if fit I'd start J.Manz @ 7 and Ilione 8, but suspect both are injured)

16. Vanes
17. Van Der Flier
18. Hoyt
19. Thomas
20. Beddall/Koroiyadi (see above)
21. Edwards
22. Meredith
23. Myall

Martin id is if it's felt he needs minutes post injury. Wells if not for a bit of experience in the squad
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I think your plan is a good one not just to give the youngsters game time but to protect seniors in what may be a bruising encounter. The Black Lions will want to prove themselves; we still want to win against Sale and Exeter and unnecessary injuries ain't the way to do it.

I would go with

9. Youngs, 10. Shillcock
12. Woodward, 13. Scott
11. Satala, 14. Porter, 15. Gourlay

16. Vanes, 17. AVDF, 18. Hoyt
19. Thomas, 20. Beddall
21. Allan, 22. Wilkinson, 23. Kinder

Gotta be starting Wilkinson at 10 for me. He’s a good player and we need to show some faith in him. Manz has been kept on too so let’s see what he can do. Probably worth playing Rogerson and Basset if they’re fit to get them back on the pitch and minutes under their belt.

I'd like to see a mix of yoof and experience, I would not put inexperienced props against the Georgians though.

Think I'm right in saying teams are announced 10 this morning

With it being a friendly, there is no set time for the teams to be released....

They sent an email saying they'd be released today, I thought it was noon but it might be ten am.

I think people need to be prepared for this to be quite a chastening defeat, the Georgian side will be older and more cohesive, and could be significantly better if it is their challenge cup team selected.

Honestly as a A team/Prem cup team I wouldn't be upset with that squad at all.
But I was hoping to see more at least 2 more experienced starters and maybe like one on the bench to help guide the team.

Like Cracknell at 8 with Carnduff 6, Shillcock at 15 or 10.
Those 2 starters would make me feel a lot more comfortable TBH.

Alot of promising backs
Woodward based on last years U20 and prem cup seems the pick
Myall, Davies and Satala and Kinder have all seemed to have had a impressive season with Lions
Allan, Gourlay and Kinder get good write ups in the students and Threfall is prob the most promising back from this years academy crop.
Just for all the talent in the world experience is so important.

Agreed - was also hoping someone like Porter and Dolly would get a game to say goodbye kind of thing.

But as you say, what a chance for the youngsters to put their hands up. Looking forward to seeing that 9-10-12-13 combo as that could be a nice balance. By all accounts that centre partnership has the potential to be very good with the right development. Gourlay at 15 has been good in BUCS for Loughborough and more game time for Whitcombe, Ilione, FTT, Vanes etc.

Interesting to see the loan players and whether this indicates they may be looked at for the dev squad next year?

Only two leavers on the team, both Tighthead props...

Suggests Hoyt may have an issue and they're not risking Cole or Hurd with Heyes already out
