Borthwick on Good, the Bad and the Rugby

Post by westwinds31 »

Has anyone else watched/listened to this yet ? The whole show is an interview with Borthwick about his playing and coaching career, from being picked up at Bath to being the main man for England. I wouldn't say he's completely opened up and let out his darkest secrets, but it's worth a look, to understand what he's been trying to do, and has done for the England set up so far. Small things like allowing families into the changing room after games to share in success (or not), a players wall where ex-players sign against their name, like a recognition of what has gone before, creating an environment where players aren't scared to make mistakes and not "playing small" - an expression he used for the Scotland game, where we had a good first 20 minutes, then a couple of errors were made and we went off script and played "small". He's trying to instill into the players that the shirt makes you grow rather than it being a heavy burden. Also bringing in coaches that Borthwick himself would want to be coached by, rather than his previous experiences of England camps, which weren't great. All in all, I think the future is bright.
