Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat
An East Midlands regional team comprising Tigers' forwards and Saints' backs would be pretty handy.Old Hob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 6:32 pm Re: England training squad

You don't want to play Gloucs or Newcastle on an international weekend!Old Hob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 6:32 pm Re: England training squad

That it's crazy to expect us to be one of the top national teams in Europe, when none our players play for the top 8(or more?) clubs in Europe...Old Hob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 6:32 pm Re: England training squad

On a basic level they just have the combinations and understanding - and basic skill level - to eliminate a lot of the errors we saw on Saturday for example.Tiglon wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 1:10 pm+1Hot_Charlie wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 12:20 pmYes.westwinds31 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 11:01 am A bit flippant maybe, but if you put the current All Blacks 15 in white shirts with the Borthwick game plan, would they win games ?
Same with the Ireland or Safrican XVs.

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat
For me the basic skills will be there or they wouldn’t be anywhere near Prem level let alone internationals. The key is the first part of what you say - they don’t yet have a clear and innate understanding as a group of players of how to react in any given situation - they have to process what they are doing, think about it, make decisions about it. Suddenly the space is gone or your handling comes under pressure. All that can change but will take time. The football managers on this forum would say there’s already no time left.On a basic level they just have the combinations and understanding - and basic skill level - to eliminate a lot of the errors we saw on Saturday for example.

Tigers, Bath and Sarries are SB's ex-teams...
Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat
The speed is higher and time less so the pressure put on handling and passing is increased.
Some players struggle to adjust. Some find their “tricks” that work at lower levels don’t because top level opponents don’t get taken in by them.
The other issue with England’s attack is the lack of offload options. Attack in ones and twos there is only one offload option. If you take it the opponents are straight on the receiver. Don’t take it then that player either overruns (or more likely stays a bit deeper) If the carrier is tackled then the support player ends up clearing out and waiting for the cavalry to arrive.
England get turned over because they don’t support the ball carrier adequately. Leave the rucks under resourced in case you get turned over effectively means you are more likely to get turned over.

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat
Before the Wales v France match next Sunday, there are rumours that Thomas Ramos will move to fly half and Stade Français full back Léo Barré will make his début. Tigers' supporters will remember Barré's try in the Champions' Cup pool fixture in December.

Player discontent leaking in at HQ according to accounts,Borths won’t have long if this is the case and the results don’t change.

Well Ben Youngs is one of them! It’s not hidden, apparently they are not drilling back play as much as they should be and there are murmurings of discontent. He won’t last long if results don’t change, not if there’s the case of “losing the dressing room”

Re: 2024 Six Nations Chat
The fact England aren’t doing any attack training doesn’t bother me, the fact a player has leaked this does.
Borthwick is a good coach given past record. He should be given time to bed in but the press and the Kick=bad brigade might not give him it.
For me, the extreme rush defence is clearly the best for knockout rugby when pressure is the greatest so glad England are giving it a go.
