Rugby: "Child Abuse"

Post by Soggypitch »

Fantastic article as always by Will Greenwood in the DT on this ridiculous report.......hopefully someone more IT literate than me can post it without the paywall.

Thanks I’ve read the title and tbh that’s enough. Another argument for wrapping our kids in cotton wool

While I am distinctly not of the Daily Mail 'PC gone mad' type tendency, as someone who has worked as an education professional most of their working life, and as a child abuse investigator the rest of it, this is unbalanced in the context of child development. Children lead vigorous and occasionally risky lives IF THEY'RE ALLOWED TO. Psychological health means getting out from behind their solitary screens and learning to manage both risk and interpersonal stuff. Physical trauma can happen anytime, playground or outside, crossing a road is dangerous by comparison. The strapline is nasty scaremongering.
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

Not very often I agree with you John, its a ridiculous terminology to use, clearly made by a statistics cruncher who can make numbers mean anything. Kids need stimulous, rugby provides it and Amateur sides do everything they can to make the game safe.

Heard a bit about it on five live yesterday. Nicky Campbell had an American or Canadian guy on talking up the child abuse thing, whilst being very rude, disrespectful and condescending to any callers that disagreed with him. Including Nick Knowles.
Bloke had no idea about rugby though!

There was quite a ding dong on X between Nick Knowles and someone who I assume is the same guy you've referred to above
