Yes, apologies. I did wonder whether to post as the tangent was going a bit far off topic....Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 11:19 amI think it’s off at a tangent from the post regarding Owen WilliamsLE18 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 10:56 amIs he from our parish? Sort of formerly Henry Tuilagi son Posolo eligibility for the French national team has been confirmed.
Aged 19 he’s currently weighing in at 145 kg , which isn’t far off 23 stone in old money.
So potentially you’ve got Dad, Uncle and Son representing 3 different countries

Hope it goes well, seemed like a good lad with plenty of potential, just never really clicked with us.

Re: Formerly of this parish
Our ex-flanker Marco van Staden interviewed in the Cape Times about his concussion issues whilst with us:
“It was more politics with the club, but I don’t want to go there. I would’ve liked to play more, and that season, they won the Premiership as well,” Van Staden said.
“I had to leave the club, and the rest of the rugby world thought I struggled with concussion, which was not the case.
“I was cleared to play, but everyone was a bit sceptical, so it was difficult to get into (the team).
“I wanted to come back home after the year we had … My wife just said we have to come back home to our family, and fortunately, I signed again with the Bulls.
“We approached the Bulls to come back. They were sceptical, but after everything was proven, that everything was fine, they were happy.
“I hadn’t played rugby for nine months, but I felt perfectly fine. It’s not a knee injury where you can feel I can’t play.
“I trained every day at the Tigers – I wasn’t allowed to play, but I trained fully …

Hmm I feel for him, but at the same time I feel it's more complicated on Tigers end.
Let's be real if there's a reason we didn't play him, you don't play a Bok international back rower unless we are worried about something valid.
Hanro, MVS, Wiese back row would have thrived against some european packs.

Absolutely always 2 sides to every story. If we could have played him we would have done the guy is a beast.RagingBull wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:05 am Hmm I feel for him, but at the same time I feel it's more complicated on Tigers end.

Comparison could be made with Vakatawa not being able to play in France but signing for Bristol
Re: Formerly of this parish
Trained fully but wasnt allowed to play. Is the insurance different for games then because I can imagine training "fully" would be the same intensity as a match and concussion is concussion. Unless we are doubting MVS truthfulness,I've said all along that something didn't add up

Re: Formerly of this parish
There is no way that training has the same intensity as a match, things have moved on from the early days of professional rugby with full contact and fights in training. The situation in question was against a background of former players taking action against their clubs and the game itself for brain damage incurred whilst playing. Time will tell in Marco's case hopefully fears will be unfounded but I don t think Tigers can be blamed for not taking the chance if they had any concerns.
Re: Formerly of this parish
From what he's said it sounds like he felt he was fine, the club didn't.
I can understand that's frustrating for him, but I wouldn't call that politics.
