Alex Mitchell is now a doubt
Losing both Smith and potentially Mitchell would be a big loss !
It has fallen in the worst way as there would be strong case to play Care and M Smith or Mitchell and F Smith but now we have lost half of each pairing.

Would like to see us make more of club pairings in the team especially with either the Quins or Northampton backs. We rarely seem to do that yet complain that Ireland have the benefit of players at Leinster playing together every week.
yes I agree, however let’s add the new combo of Care and Fin Smith in for our latest prediction instead

Irish Team to start against France:

Ireland: H Keenan; C Nash, R Henshaw, B Aki, J Lowe; J Crowley, J Gibson-Park; A Porter, D Sheehan, T Furlong; J McCarthy, T Beirne; P O'Mahony (capt), J van def Flier, C Doris.

Replacements: R Kelleher, C Healy, F Bealham, J Ryan, R Baird, J Conan, C Murray, C Frawley.

10 from the Leinster side that beat us in the starting 15, another 4 on the bench. And who says that the Champions Cup is fair?

I'm really hoping that Racing scrum half, Nolan Le Garrec, gets more than 5 minutes at the end of the game to be properly tested at international level, because I'm convinced he has the potential to keep Antoine Dupont on his toes!

15. Ramos ; 14. Penaud, 13. Fickou, 12. Danty , 11. Moefana ; 10. Jalibert, 9. Lucu ; 7. Ollivon, 8. Alldritt (cap.), 6. Cros ; 5. Willemse, 4. Gabrillagues ; 3. Atonio, 2. Mauvaka, 1. Baille

Remplaçants : 16. Marchand, 17. Wardi, 18. Aldegheri, 19. R. Taofifenua, 20. Woki, 21. Boudehent, 22. Le Garrec, 23. Bielle-Biarrey.
In the absence of Dupont, Mauvaka to be man of the tournament I reckon.

Romain Taofifenua, who’s been selected on the bench for tomorrow evening’s match, is doubtful and could be replaced by Posolo Tuilagi.

Spot on with the wingers swapped

Bench - Dan, Genge, Cole, Coles, CCS, Spencer, F Smith, Feyi-wabos

Edit - Mitchell to start Care on the bench

A sensible selection for England which will allow the controlled introduction of several new caps. Having two starting and three on the bench is a good balance.

This has now been confirmed. Tuilagi is « only » 1m92 so is hardly likely to be a line out threat (as I mentioned earlier, it’d take a forklift truck to get his 145 kgs off the ground) but with ball in hand it’ll take more than one Irish defender to tackle him.

No lineout threat but presumably made up for by lineout options in the back row?

Difficult when we’re missing three quality centres in Tuilagi, Lawrence and Marchant. Good to test strength in depth and hope Marchant does come back next season.

IMO Tuilagi shouldn’t be anywhere near any future England squads
