My frustration is that we have an incredible set of backs, one of the best in ages but we just do not seem to know what to do with them. On that basis, if we cannot attain forwards dominance, we will always struggle. A firing back line is also often the difference in getting vital bonus points.

At the moment we have a sports car sat on the driveway and are only using it it potter down to Sainsburys.

I agree it is talented but we do lack proper pace (OHC and Simmons aside). We really lack pace in midfield. That being said the lack of cohesion and creativity is alarming.

And yet we have 2 centres tonight in Kata, who has played test wing, and Kelly who ran away from the Sarries defence with an interception. The pace is there the issue, as others have said is using it correctly, Kata isn’t just a bosh merchant he has decent feet too

How many more times? We kick less than others.
We may well kick less, but when we do its either in the wrong situation and or in desperation.

Isn’t Matt Smith in charge of the backs?

Yes but he was bumped up from the Academy as a stop gap when Dickens went on an extended leave of absence.

No Smith was already made skills (and possibly backs) coach for the senior squad prior to the season when McKellar came in.

He took on further responsibility when Dickens went on his LOA. So he is one of those stepping up looking after our attack.

The fact that people are saying attack and skills are our weakest facets of the game is because it is the position we are most streched in.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Apologies, did not know that, I thought he came straight from the academy role without the appointment to a senior coach.

"As part of Dan McKellar's team, Smith will be the Skills Coach for the senior squad while also taking on the newly-created Lead Academy Coach role which sees him responsible for the Senior Academy Squad and transition of players from junior to senior rugby."

Makes sense, seems I recalled the academy appointment but not the joint role.

The same defensive strategy that kept what could have been the Irish side to 3 tries in normal time
Please look at the season as a whole ,my friend.
In open play there is a decided vulnerability. An unsettled Centre pairing does not help but non the less... different eyes see different things.
Not sure I want to be relying on your eyes.

In 2022/23, from 20 league games we conceded 3.3 tries per game on average and conceded 24.5 points per game on average.

In 2023/24, from 11 league games we have conceded 2.64 tries per game on average and 21.36 points per game on average.

Our defence is not our issue.
Quite correct ,defence is not THE single issue....
Stats can be interpreted as one wishes to an extent , the manner in which we concede tells a different tale - here is where our respective sets of eyes come in. Different people see different things
Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....

A "crazy" idea.
Try to get Pat Howard, Geordan, or even Austin Healy as temporary attack consultant until this matter is resolved.

Strange selection..

One returned to Australia and seemed to move out of rugby. Why would he want to travel half way round the world to fill in as an assistant to someone else who holds the job he had years ago.

One was our head and skills coach when we were a side that played like headless chickens with no skill.

The third is commentator seems to be a would be 4th official and is an experienced as a coach as he is a referee.
